Although I have been a part of the DrawSpace community for a couple months I have not had time until now to send a general greetings out to everyone. As a part of this greeting I will let you know who I am and what I do.
My name is obviously Richard Kaer, and I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. Although I didn't have much support outside of my family (I was kicked out of the high school art classes) I was still able to keep my dreams of art alive.
After high school I joined the military and served for 2 years in the US Navy, and of course I spent most of my free time working on art.
After the military I spent two years in New York City teaching religion, and then went straight on to college where I received my BS in Illustration.
After college I found out how hard life as an artist was and sadly art had to take a sideline to making a living for my family (wife and 2 kids). While doing this I was able to stumble on to a program that would let me teach school on a waver, so for the next 4.5 years I was teaching special education to low level students and attending college.
Now, after gaining licensure I am finishing up my last semester for my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction/Reading, and I was able to finally get my endorsements in art. So, after several years having art as a dream, I am able to work in art on a daily basis.
