After stumbling upon this site, and I am glad I did, it has encouraged me to piup my pencils and learn to draw, once and for all....and by total surprise I was looking through my art books, and lo and behold, I had the drawing for dummies book...I couldn't believe it...so I started reading it last night, I don't know why I didn't continue with it, but the site has encouraged me like I said...and it is a goalfor me to draw well....Has anyone read and finished the book, (a complete beginner?) I would love to see before and after sketches...it would be nice to see them. Thanks,
Deb

I have seen the book but have never read it. For me, the best book by far is 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain' by Betty Edwards. I will be interested to hear what others have to say on this subject.

The dummies book is written by Brenda Hoddinott...
I have read some of Drawing on the right side of the brain, didn't finish it, not because it wasn't good, I just didn't stay with it. I also have a couple books by Julia Cameron, Walking in this world, and the Artist way. I have trouble with being focused, I am hoping to stay focused and draw a little every day, and go through all of Brendas lessons. I hope to post something soon.....Have you hear of the books by danny gregory, they also sound very interesting and motivational.

I don't have a copy of Drawing for Dummies, but I've looked at it in the store; it really looks great, actually. Some of the lessons here on drawspace are built on drawings that appear in that book, so there's some overlap. Plenty of people here have learned to draw from beginner to advanced level using the lessons on this site -- give them a try!

I am doing the lessons here, I am up to C06. Its nice to work at my own pace, and a little every day, it helps me to stay comitted. I will post a *beginning picture* soon.
