I just discovered this site and forum and am looking forward to participating.
One question: Is one expected to be working with physical media rather than a paint program such as Paint Shop or ArtWeaver?

This site is mainly for learning the basics of drawing, so much of what we do is with drawing mediums. You will find many exceptions to that. I use MS Paint to do sprites.
