Full Version: A From Life of Everyday Objects ATC Exchange
Drawspace > General > General discussion
Firehorse_Australia
Hi everyone,

I just LOVE this place and thought a great way of developing my eye-hand coordination is to do a series of small drawing from life of everyday objects.

THEN, I figured why not ask if others would be interested in joining me and we make an exchange out of it. biggrin.gif

So anyone interested???? unsure.gif

PLEASE let me know what you think????
Ernest Friedman-Hill
I think this is an excellent idea for the next exchange.
paulette4
Yes good idea!
kim1963
I agree ...Ernest if you would like to run the next trade that would be great smile.gif

If that's OK with Firehorse_Australia, I will be happy to do so.

Sounds like a good topic Stacey - there's a whisk in my kitchen drawer that seems to think that its a life model LOL.

one problem I see happening is people join and then do not send out all cards .. so some get left out ...they may get their 10 cards or so but they either send none or forget a couple of the cards. so just a warning that this does happen and just make sure you do not get too many in on the trade or give enough time for everyone to finish .
Jangra
Great idea. And I always send all my cards. I know what you mean tho.
Venus
smile.gif Well, I defiantely understand what you are saying Kim. I had a card returned that I sent out from the Valentine's Exchange that I need to resend. For some reason Aleyahs cards are always returned and I need to have her Last name to resend. (Hint, Hint)....I also think I am still waiting on 2 cards...

Good concept for an ATC trade, the results should be interesting.

Just a note about non finishers - they should only get one chance, and should be blacklisted if they don't complete, unless there are extenuating circumstances which prevent them from doing so.

And the same goes for those who do not provide full mailing details. That is essential to enable the sender to get the ATC card to you. If the individual will not provide complete contact information, they should not be permitted to participate.

I know this sounds a bit harsh, but the reality of it is that people who do participate put a lot of time and effort into their work and go to the trouble and expense of mailing these cards to others. If nothing else, it is simply polite to follow the rules and complete the task you agreed to do.

So think carefully before you sign up for an ATC trade and ask yourself the following questions:

Am I willing to...

Create 10+ individual cards?
Provide full mailing details for myself?
Pay for mailing costs to 10+ individuals located around the world?
Meet the deadline of mailing the cards?
Scan and post the cards online when required?
Inform the group if there will be any delays or problems in being able to complete the trade?

Pushing my soap box back under the desk now...smile.gif

Hi guys! I just love all these new things to think about (at least new for me).

I've searched the forum and I can't figure out exactly what the rules are (I'm new). Also, is it possible that past experiences with this would show us that we need to change the rules of play?

Is it possible that each artist creates only 4 cards and the trade is done more randomly (not everyone gets a card from every artist)? It would be fun to get something in the mail... but I definitely wouldn't have time for 10 or 15 cards. And boy it would be disappointing to draw 10 to 15 cards only to have some be returned by the postal system. :/

I think we should be sensitive to many of the problems with the current ATC trade system (I could suggest better changes if I really understood the concept though).

Again, for me, this is great fun (and something new). Jeanette? if the rules were different, would you participate?

Thanks!
IslanderNL
Hello Giuoco, and welcome to the forum. Its nice to see a new face. smile.gif

The concept of Artist Trading Cards (ATC) was laid out in this thread

The rules are simple, but human nature being what it is, it doesn't always go according to plan with people agreeing to participate then bowing out part way through, insufficient contact information, etc.

My reasons for not participation are not related to the rules, but usually to my lack of available time to devote to creating these cards. Four or five I could manage; 10 or more I couldn't, as I have other obligations and a full time job to contend with.

There is nothing to stop individuals from participating in one on one trades or with small groups. The norm here has become around 9 or 10 people - up to 12 which provides a reasonable level of demand on the artists creating the work.

I will be watching the thread and see how it progresses. smile.gif

Thanks Jeanette!

Ernest, please sign me up. smile.gif

Yay! ATC!
kim1963
Thank you Jeanette , well said.....So with that all said I think it should go as follows .

Ask yourself these questions before committing to a trade :

Create at least 6 individual cards?
Provide full mailing details for myself?
Pay for mailing costs to at least 6 individuals located around the world?
Meet the deadline of mailing the cards?
Scan and post the cards online when required?
Inform the group if there will be any delays or problems in being able to complete the trade?

If your answer is yes and you are willing to join in then know one thing ...if you do not meet with all those questions stated ...your cards do not get out intime and no notice has been givin or you forget to send one out ect...you will be dropped from any trade in the future .

We will make the trade for 6 people making it abit easier for those who would like to join ...if the list goes over 6 people ..then Myself or Ernest will split the group up ....Example if we get 12 people we make two groups of 6 if we get 11 we make one group of 6 and one of 5 ...also note that you can do private trades on the side smile.gif just do not over load yourself .

Hows this all sound ?

I do love the idea of the Drawings from life idea presented by Stacey smile.gif as the theme .

I will start the list with the first name and add as you have read the terms and can agree to them smile.gif just say you want in .
