Okay, so where do we actually "draw the line" (get it? hyuck hyuck tongue.gif ) when it comes to obscene/offensive material?

What exactly is allowed and not allowed to be posted on this site? What is the definition of "tasteful" when opinions vary as greatly as do the morals of the beholder?

And since when did we artists care about "offending" anyone, anyway? blink.gif Just a thought....

I just need to know what is postable and what is not....we all know nudity is one of the best references, so how far can that subject be pushed? I think we need to know boudaries before we inadvertantly get a deleted profile...

This just my opinion, ok? But i think to answer your question just ask your self, "What is my motive for creating and posting this work?" I say this because most of us know when we are attempting to "push the limits".

Also, there is a saying, "It's easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission." So if you are truely in doubt just go ahead and post whatever you feel is art. If it offends too many people some of us Mods may ask you to remove it.

I don't think you'll have to worry about getting your profile deleted for the first offense.

You might check out the galleries and see if you find subjects that are similar to the work you are thnking of posting.

The line, in my eye, is fairly clear. There is nudity in art, such as figure drawing which is acceptable because it is created to simply show the human body's form.

What becomes offensive is when it is blatent pornography, showing some form of intercourse, implied or otherwise; it depicts women in subservient poses or wearing suggestive clothing. It can also include 'soft' pornography - the type of image that you'd find in some men's magazines - is offensive, as it demeans women and is there purely for entertainment purposes. This is the type of pose seen most often recreated in pencil in these forums and galleries.

There are also cultural differences which impact what is acceptable or not. North America has a warped view of the human form, reducing it to schoolyard humour and always seeing 'sex' in it instead of form. Europe tends to have a more relaxed, mature view of the human body. Then some feel it is acceptable to view a full frontal view of a female, but when confronted with a male in the same pose think it is objectionable.

These images usually tend to be the domain of youth who are partially trying out their drawing skills and partially trying out their sexual fantasies. Its just that here isn't the place to do that.

As there are no specific policies regarding nudity in this forum, my suggestion is that it would be wise for individuals to put a notice in their tagline when posting a thread that contains nudity, that advises viewers of the content. Then it becomes viewer be warned.

Well if someone has a problem with some of my work then it would be really nice if the person or administrators come to me first. I don't like the idea of someone going behind my back to report it and the administrators removing it without notifying me first. Yes! I'm still angry about that! That just comes off as being sneaky and behind my back which makes it hard to trust people on this site.

Rsine, I don't know the specific issue that you are talking about, and I agree that would be annoying.

The process for addressing any piece of art that does not meet site requirements should be that individuals be contacted initially and given an explanation of how their art work is offensive and be asked to take it down within a reasonable period of time. If it is not taken down within that time frame, then a moderator will remove it.
