I started this a few days ago. It is part from reference and part from me. It begs for color, but as I am not experienced enough to visualize and put down on the paper to enhance it I am afraid to attempt anything that might ruin what I have started. So what I am asking..please..does anyone have any ideas on how to add color to this drawing? Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. It is in graphite only

I would take several photocopies, or printouts from your computer and try different methods of colour on those before deciding what to do.

Kat the drawing is beautiful. What I do to have it in color is not colorizing, which means adding color over the graphite even this can be also done.
I would do what steve suggests, make copies/ prints. On a print I would start trying different hues for each part of the drawing, pink or blue for wings, tan for skin, yellow or light blue or pink for dress, etc.Golden for hair. Then I would transfer(means the contour in colored pencils on a new drawing pad and from that point on start drawing with shade and everything).
And that's because graphite and Cp don't mix well, Cp over graphite causes graphite to become more pronounced and dark.
Hope this helps.

Steve, great idea making copies to work with first!
This is a lovely drawing and a thought came to my mind for the treatment of the wings....try outlining the wings with water color pencil and then with a moist brush pulling the color down into the wings...I haven't tried this but I think if you played with it a wee bit you could create a colorful and yet transparent look. keep the color light and don't overwork it...like I said play with it and have fun!
