This was done in the process of learning to use a draw/paint program called Artweaver(freeware). I havn't done any drawing in about 40 years and dont have the 'tablet' needed. Using a program like this is pretty much like doing a drawing with 'material' media w/o the mess and, of course, it can be printed out so that it ismaterial. So, the only thing "virtual" is the drawing instrument.
Doing this has piqued my interest so I'm going to get some good drawing supplies and work in both media.

I don't know why this is full size; it was the 'thumbnail code(?)

Good job John for your first attempt at a digital portrait. Its a difficult medium to learn - more so the program that produces it than the drawing part itself is the steep learning curve.

What was the medium you used for this? It looks part pencil, part watercolour.

its easier to do with a tablet and a digital pen than using a mouse which doesn't provide much control. Personally, I prefer paper and pencil, but although I have a digital tablet, I haven't used it much. I guess my patience level for learning the ins and outs of art programs is limited. smile.gif

I'll look forward to seeing more of your work.

This is quite good considering you are using the mouse instead of the tablet.

Just a caution, never make the drawing to big in pixels (stick to about 75 dpi) as internet can not distinguish any higher, so it becomes a waste of memory.

This is okay if you only ever plan to have your work on the internet, if you plan to print at some time I think (but don't actually know) that you want 300dpi. I would look into it. You can always down size your drawings with a program.

Thanks to all for responses; I'm under the impression this was at 72 dpi; I think it was all done in "pencil" mode

Drawing with the mouse is totally non-intuitive, the 'point' is up under the center of your palm; I'm going to get a tablet as soon as possible(I live on Soc. Sec.)

It is nice I can`t imagine myself working with mouse..It must be a lot more difficult than pencil because of the way how you hold mouse/pencil..good job..
