I have been told that black cp should not be used as it makes it too flat?

I want to do a dog's face and he has a lot of very drk black col sad.gif

When I paint, the black I use is made up of cobalt blue alizarin crimson and raw sienna. It seems to work for CP too, you just have to keep layering until you get the dark you want

Black can be used but you don't want to use it by itself. You need to add colours that are reflected in the subject that you are drawing and layer them into your black to soften it and give it interest.
