Full Version: WEEKLY DRAWSPACE CHALLENGE
Drawspace forums > Activities and Challenges > Challenges
chrismh
All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

I couldn't wait to host a challenge again because it was so much fun the last time. These are all random photos taken from here there and everywhere. I hope there is something for everyone.

Get out your pencils your paint brushes or your crayons if you choose because in a "Draw Space Challenge" no one can lose!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a

complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I

release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other

reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

Oh My Goodness! Which one to choose? they are all great subjects. They are works of art in their own right. Did you take the pictures yourself? You certainly have an eye for it.

Thank you! I live in NJ and we drove to KY on Wednesday night because my son races BMX and this weekend is the National Championships. I snapped a few random pics along the way because I don't have all of my pictures on my laptop, which I forgot about when I left home. I have some on my laptop though. I love the random shots of something old and on it's own like the boat.... that's my favorite!

Have fun everyone, I'm off to the track to watch Gabe hopefully win! biggrin.gif

Wow! that is dangerous BMX racing. I wish him luck and skill, and safe racing.

Thank you... We're on our way home and it was a long 5 days!!!!! Gabe took 2nd. in the Nation as a 9 year old expert! We're pretty darn proud of him, he raced his little butt off. Now I have to look forward to the 14 hour drive home!

PS... I lost my camera somewhere at the race track and I'm bummed. No one turned it in sad_an.gif

Kim, This looks awesome very nice tones, can I ask what you used was it simply coloured pencils or pastel type pencils? I purchased some skin tone pastel pencils myself a few weeks back but I have not tackled colour in anything as yet.
Very nice!
Jon
kim1963
Thank you Jon ...I do use colored pencil ..prisma I was going to buy thge skin colors in a pack but it was cheaper to just buy them each one at a time ...I love drawing portraits and mostly those that are snap shots .

Aw Kim it looks amazing!! I wish I was as good as you with coloured pencils. I have prismacolor and I can't do anything like that. I actually tried to draw the cute kid picture too and I just couldn't. I can't draw mouths. Or more like teeth.
kim1963
Jon you have a great start ! keep up the good work .

Roxy ...teeth are one of the hardest things for me to draw .. a open mouth is such a challenge and i LOVE to draw young kids in these kinds of poses ..out of the norm kinda things ....it was fun to do ...like the one of you and your boyfriend ...I had it on a board here at my home ..because people always ask .." Kim what are you working on " so I always have it on a easel when I am not working on them .. people just love the colors and the pose .

Another amazing piece!

Before I joined Drawspace, I thought that colored pencils are for the kids (it was my ignorance), but when I saw your drawings in CP, I was just in awe. I must confess, your drawings inspired me to try draw with CP. Thank you!
