Hi melthemi!
Can we see your reference picture.. I know you have the real horse right in front of you, but it is hard for us to know what exactly it looks like.

hi airscapes !!!
sorry, but no real horse ... just a horse. maybe I can find a pic which looks like this horse but I do not know it for the moment ... ;-))
PS: just surprise me how you want it to be !!!

Melthemi,

I would suggest working from a reference, it is easier to make sure your dimensions and angles are correct. At the moment the full front of the horse's face can be seen but the neck seems to be holding the head at the wrong angle for us to be seeing that much.

Also to appear more realistic you should not draw in lines such as along the jaw line and where the bone structure is on the face. To be more realistic you should try using tone to show this. You can use short strokes to immitate the coat and have them sparse where where there is more light and then have more strokes where the darker areas are. You can still blend if you want or you could leave them as they are - depending on what you want to achieve.

I suggest that you go & have a look at Greeneyes Wolf WIP in the forums. She has a great example of what can be achieved, and its done in steps.

hi bigs!
thanks for your try! - I have to look up some words to be really sure what you mean ... I know the wolf - it's fantastic !!!! but I have seen some pics done with pencils and blending - they look sooo real! and also you can have the imagination of fur. I wanted to try this ...
the angle is nearly correct but some muscles are missing on the neck front. maybe this is a little bit irritating. I will try to take a pic from my girls in this pose. maybe it can help - but they don't look like this horse ... :-(
I have a search for a pic and scan it here.
