There is so much free instructions and information on painting and drawing on the Internet I don't see why anyone should spend $100 on any book. Just my opinion.

i have an entire library of artbooks myself and have never heard of those either..
mr burcham is right, i have found after spending much money on books that the info is 'free' right on line, and here if you ask too.
i still love my library though.

Looking at Amazon, the last one looks to be a college-level art textbook. The bad reviews refer to the weak binding, not the content. Looking at the page previews you can see on Amazon, it looks a lot like what you'd expect from a college text: lots of descriptive text, nothing in the way of step-by-step instruction. It's also super broad, covering a wide range of subjects without too much depth. Doesn't seem like the kind of book a hobby artist would enjoy, but that's just my snap judgment.

While books can be good references and give details of how to achieve some specific techniques, they should not be relied upon too heavily. Too often people buy art books thinking they will give them the 'secret' of how to draw or paint like the author. They will give information yes, but unless you put the work in yourself, they won't serve any purpose.
So join a local art group or create one yourself. Draw, paint, practice daily. Yes use some books for reference but research them first and find out if they are worth the money you're paying. There are a LOT of how to art books out there and few that are worth the paper they're written on in my opinion.
