Having just read Cindy Wider's article "How To Overcome The Voices In Your Mind And Draw Better Immediately"
http://www.drawspace.com/articles/overcome_voices/ I'd just like to congratulate Cindy both on an excellent and very insightful article, and also on the excellent and impressive progress students have made with her on her course, which reinforces the message that many of us try to convey here, namely that drawing is a teachable learnable skill - all we need are more good, clear, coherent, sensible teachers like Brenda, Cindy, Mike and others who contribute here.

I'm after getting across the message loud and clear that drawing is teachable smile.gif

Its about learnable knowledge, and practice, its not some "god-given talent".

on the God given talent thing .. I KNOW people will disagree but I still think yes it can be taught but to only a degree ...I know builders and I know contractors and trust me there is a difference ..I would pay a builder to build because it is in their blood and you will get what you pay for .. a contractor who works for the money and has been taught the trade to me is just not the same ...I am not trying to offend anyone at all ...but I know I have never had a class in my life and I am where I am at .. yes agreed with Cindy or Mike or even some of you showing me new ways to get what I am missing would only add to make my work even better ..room for growth is always there ....some just have deeper roots .

I agree with Dave that art can be taught. But you have to want to learn! Those of us who have an innate love of art teach ourselves, we look at others work and figure out how it's done, and through trial and error, we learn how to do it. But imagine if you had a teacher like Cindy? wouldn't that make the process a lot quicker and easier? I think you can only teach those that are receptive to the task! Cindys students are the best advert for her skills as a teacher. I would recommend her as a teacher to anybody!
