[attachmentid=9519]Today I discovered this wonderful website and took the opportunity to thank Brenda for the initiative to create such an useful place on the web where art enthusiasts can meet, learn the secrets of drawing(painting) and show their progress, work, albums as well as share opinions on how to render life in art.As you can see from my Ethnic faces album I am interested in human faces from diferent cultures.After more than 20 years of not touching the paper with a pencil for the purpose of drawing I started in january with these quick sketches and I am determined to learn and practice. I am a 53 year old teacher of Spanish and French and my name is Elena. I never went to an art school or even a course. When I was 12 my drawing teachers in school adviced me to take art classes but I considered I was not original enough for being an artist. I studied though on my own European history of art, visited a few museums in Europe and have some knowledge of art appreciation.By the way I'm European born, live in USA since 1992 and all the ethnic diversity fascinates and inspires me to the point that I want to render it through drawing. I am in a very primitive phase as one can see from my sketches but ready to take the challenge.These days I am working on my self portrait from a photograph back in '88. here is my work in progress.Maybe you have suggestions to make for improving it.
