Full Version: Compliments that please you

I guess in reponse to to opposite topic, it would be interesting to know what kind of appraisal pleases you. Let's be positive this time biggrin.gif

The best I've had lately is "It's wonderful the tremendous improvement you've made in such a short time".

But as I think of it "I would love to hang this one on my wall" tops it. wub.gif
Ernest Friedman-Hill
Usually the comments I enjoy the most are ones from fellow artists who are familiar with other work I've done. "I see you did better with X this time", so that I know I'm on the right track.

Also the hanging on the wall thing, especially when you go in someone's house and see it smile.gif

I think the one that I like the best is: "I sure wish I could draw portraits like that!" biggrin.gif

Its not really compliments that I want - I am more in line with Ernest, I want comments that point me in a direction to help improve, or comment on an improvement that I have made. These things mean the most to me ......especially when they come from a more experienced artist.

the best I've got was: your work is unique!! I liked that for I try to have my own style, rather than just copying others style tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

Got my best one the other night. I posted my Fankinstein charcoal on an airbursh site I have been very active on for many years. One of my fellow airbrush artists asked if it was done for me or for a customer. I responed it was for me/wife but I would sell it in a heartbeat for the right price.

20 minutes later I got a PM that saying he wants it what's the price. I told him and he replied:

"Doug that is definitly not too much money, especially after doing the frame and matting.
For now I will have to decline until I raise some funds for this but I do want it.
I collect Frankenstein merch. and I love to collect other artists artwork and that my friend is a nice piece of art and great portrait of THE original movie monster!
I will keep in touch to see if anybody else has snatched this up but do not take less than what you stated...it's definitly worth it!!!"

That made me very very happy.

smile.gif I have been given a lot of compliments, so I really can't say what my favorite is. It's just nice to recieve them once in a while.

"Keep up !"

Silence is a good compliment, too. Not trying to be a zen master of patronizing here, but if you want, you can BS someone to believe he/she's an artist even by judging the person's writing on a napkin in a restaurant.

Ditto.
Anyway, my fave would be "Wow, you're a pretty good artist" [in an amazed tone of voice] That felt cool. biggrin.gif

Now here is a compliment that really pleased me.
I got it from Ernest here at drawspace.

"Looks good, Kaly! Every portrait is a learning experience. This one includes more detail and more modeling than ones you did a little while ago, and each one looks better than the last. That's the most important thing."

This keeps me going...thank you blush.gif wub.gif rolleyes.gif

I find negative and positive comments equally distasteful. I am unsure why, I just have never been receptive to any, one way or the other.

I get a really good feeling when someone says to me " Tattoo that right here "
This just happened today ! and so I did ..here is is .
Mr Ofir
I really really liked these compliments I got here in Drawspace:

"And Mr. Ofir, your drawings would fit right in on the pages of the New Yorker -- you have a nice style that transitions directly from realism to cartoon and back." by Ernest

"As in all your drawings its as if you put your pen down and not lift it again until the picture is finished. A truly unique style that I find fascinating" by Lance

And I also liked when in my most recent selfportrait Kay not only said kind words about the drawing but also about the subject blush.gif

Those three compliments serve as an example, cause each and every comment that I've had recieved here in Drawspace had pleased me a lot, and I want to thank everyone that took the time to write something about my drawings. Glad to be here smile.gif
