Hi all,
I just learned this from a French forum dedicated to colored pencils.
This is what you need: watercolor pencils, a fine brush, a sandpaper file or something to shave your pencils with, watercolor paper(preferable).

The demo is with a fall leaf in which colors blend for great effects.

You just draw the contour of your leaf, moist the interior of your leaf, then shave your different colors on the wet side. Wait to dry up then blow off the shavings. Et voila. Your impressed shavings look great on your autumn leaf.

Notice that in my last picture I wet with a brush after the process a small portion of my leaves and you can see the difference. It looks ugly.So leave the leaf alone after blowing off the shavings.

Great looking effect there Elena! Pity you used the water at the end, but I am glad you put it up as a cautionary tale for the rest of us.

I saw on another site (I cannot remember which) a heat box used with wax based coloured pencils (I figure that the same might be able to be done with a light box & its heat) any way a base layer of colour was put down and then shavings of colour were sprinkled on top (like what you have just done) and the heat melts the pencil somewhat like an encaustic and the sprinkles melt into it and appear as speckles - looked really great with vibrant colours. So along with trying heat on the coloured pencils - I am going to have to play with the watercolour pencil shavings too.

I am loving the effects that we can get experimenting with our pencils. Thanks so much for posting this.
