Hey guys, I need help! I'm a little confused about size of trading card. Is it really 2,5 and 3,5 inches. It makes 6,35 and 8,75 cm, am I right? Do they really need to be so small?
I'm sorry if my question sounds ..., but we use metric system. And I've done already 6 sketches which are at least 3 times bigger than this.

Don't feel bad about asking! Yes, it really does need to be that size, so that everyone's is the same size, and they fit in baseball card holders. This converter seems to work, if you want one:

I have to warn you guys - drawing technical stuff is definitely not my strong point! I am trying very hard - I have lots of trouble with perspective. But - I have three cards completed already, and getting ready to send out.

Hi,
I took the weekend to take photo references of some buildings, and I already drew three cards; not outstanding quality, but I'm warming up; from the next 68 cards I will be able to fetch 12 good ones

And Ncgirl don't worry; my perspective is not so bad, but I tried to watercolor the drawings; and effectively, I have water here and color there

I know that it is too early but I was so annoyed last time with the post office last time that I wanted to send as early as possible. I have almost finished my cards - now I'll probably replace some of them, or add a touch here and there and send them out on Friday. I've found the size very challenging for this type of drawings. Still, it has been very interesting - thank you for the great idea. I couldn't draw all the buildings I love around me - turned out to be much more than 12.

Sveta - Your cards are amazing. The detail you have managed is really great. I'm struggling with mine and I know Steve will criticise my perspective - what perspective? However I'll keep plodding on - I've got 9 done, so nearly there.

I think I know the principle of perspective, but working on such a small scale makes it awkward - just making a line a bit too thick makes all the difference - and hides the slightly cockeyed angles!

Yes thank you I do feel much better now. I get this alot for some reason, it always starts with a headache and then it makes me feel sick and sometimes I end up being sick. The last few months I was actually getting sick, someone told me to take vitamins so I take vitamins now and it happens less often.

Oh, my goodness Sveta! Those are just beautiful, and so fast! I'm just starting mine, and I'm hoping to be able to send out watercolours, like Claudio is trying, but I might just have to start over and use pencils again. I'm not catching on too quickly. My buildings are more blah than I thought they would be too. My "artistic vision" of them seems to have fled with time and fear, lol. I may have picked a harder topic than I can handle!

Just popped in for a look see and wow I love the architecture Sveta! Are some of those Aquarelle pencils?? I love the look of all of them anyway.
Norma, those Kirks and Castles are great! And hey if any perspective is off just cheat & do what I do ..............in your sweetest voice say "Oh it's the new naive style - it doesn't matter if there isn't a straight line - it's meant to look child-like!" you can get away with anything ha ha ha

I have completed five and am mailing out today. I'm not the greatest at architecture either. Here they are:
Click to view attachmentFrom left to right we have:
1. An abandoned tobacco curing barn. Quite a few of them abandoned now, since tobacco production is rapidly decreasing. Those of us who spent our childhood summers "putting in tobacco" (harvesting) to buy school clothes remember these barns well.
2. A local favorite - the King Street Diner. 300 square feet of the greasiest, fattiest, best tasting food ever (I've heard - never worked up the courage to go there myself). It's been closed for a while.
3. Another tobacco barn, this one has been converted to a workshop. The day before I took this picture there was a wonderfully restored 57 Buick parked in front of it.
4. A house on "Sugar Hill" - the notorious red light district of Kinston "back in the old days". These houses are absolutely gorgeous, or they were, most of them are boarded up or crack houses now. I restored this one on paper and put some of the ladies out on the porch. Sugar Hill saved Kinston during the Civil War, the Northern generals would not shell the town for fear of frightening the ladies.
5. An odd mix of commerce and religion - this is the Jesus King of Kings Fish and Produce Market. It was a carwash too, but I think they gave that part up. Grapes are in now and so are pumpkins.
Now to work on the rest!

Finished another one last night and will mail out today. This is a roadside produce stand, lots of them around, they usually sell flowers too and yard decorations. All of them are bright and the spelling on the signs is sometimes a challenge to decipher. This one just put the sign out that they had "mums" (chrysanthemums) for sale. Lots of them too, I couldn't get them all on the card!

I was looking at your wonderful work and I noticed that the third one down on the right bottom when I clicked on to look at it and it was bigger the end of the building kinda resembles a wine bottle..this must be the results of my earlier years of drinking..Heee heee,
