Great idea! I think we are being hosed by the oil companies and the governement, but we should also keep someing else in perspetive. Our news media kind of shelters us here in the US from what is going on around the world. I have a freind in Sweden, as gas hit $3.25 a gallon in January, I emailed him to ask if fuel prices were going up in his country. Here is his responce:

"The gasoline and heating oil has hit the roof,,well,,gasolin has been quite expencive along time,,very high taxes on gasoline we pay about $7 for a gallon.
heating oil is very, very expencive i'm not updated but last time i heard it was
about $1500 for 1000 litres i believe it has gone up even more by now.
the yearly use is about 3000litres to warm up a house...($4500 to fill up the tank)"

Not that I am happy about being raked over the coals for gas, but it is still cheaper here than in many other palces in this world.

There are many members from around the world here at Drawspace, maybe if folks could post the price of gas in your respective countries, it may help us feel less frustrated!

no doubt..i see in i believe it was germany..it was like 10 bucks a gallon..wow..better get myself a bicycle..lol or a horse (hey...i always wanted a pony)

my husband is always telling me, it may be tough and getting tougher but this country is still far better off than many others when it comes to many different things..

i am a big fan of political cartoons, love them and thought this thread may get some pretty funny art regarding this topic

have a great day

The average price of a gallon of gasoline in the USA is $3.39 according to my research. Aside from possibly Venezuela, Egypt, Nigeria, Turkmenistan or Saudi Arabia, the USA has the lowest gasoline prices in the world - the western world anyway. The USA also has the largest reserve of fuels, but is one of the largest expenders of fuel too. Stockpiling of fuel also affects world pricing.

The United States used an average of 385 million US liquid gallons (1.46 gigalitres) of gasoline (petrol) each day in 2005, amounting to 44% of the total U.S. consumption of petroleum products. This corresponds to 18.5 Exajoules per year, or 600 Gigawatts. Western countries have among the highest usage rates per person.

In Newfoundland I currently pay $1.33 a litre for gas - about $5.32 a gallon. With the Canadian and American dollars on par, the price reads the same in either US or Cdn dollars.

Europe really feels the crunch for fuel pricing with Britain being one of the highest at an equivalent of $8.61 a gallon currently being charged. Slightly higher at $8.63 a gallon in Germany.

Drawing the frustrations of fuel is fine, but more drastic action needs to take place in practical actions such as reducing dependence on cars, reducing vehicle sizes, lobbying manufacturers to create more 'smart' cars and electric cars.

My fear is that one day in the not too distant future, fuel supplies will be out of the reach of most people and we should be prepared for that time.

Fun post O&J, I too am frustrated by the high price of gas, especially since I commute about 60+ miles a day to work. In this midst of grousing, I try to be as grateful as possible - I do have a job, it pays well, etc., I can pinch in some places (Starbucks) in order to make up for the increase in gas. I feel really bad for the minimum-wage workers here that have to work two days to afford to fill their gas tanks or the elderly people who struggle just to make ends meet and have trouble heating their homes.

On the other hand, since I'm trying to drive less, I can stay home and draw more!

Hi all,

interesting topic Kay....I am all for experimenting with different sources of fuel and the electric car.

but I think we should all drive one of these.... my very own creation...driven by Cyn Kid.

Hi Kay
Sorry, can't make a joke about petrol (gas) prices. In Scotland just now we are paying ?1.10 per litre, which converts to $8.29 for a US gallon - also we have the threat of supplies running out because of a strike.
Quite a while ago, they stopped charging in gallons and use litres because they think we are stupid.

wow..this has really been an informative thread..i just dont know how ppl are doing it..i felt like we were being robbed by coorporations and executives, but i almost feel good about our prices now..shame on me for fussing about what we pay..it really blows my mind what everyone else is paying..

yes, time for us to come up with alternative sources hunh?

i have always been one of the ppl that recyles EVERYTHING, composts, does everything in one trip, and i try really hard to make my mark as very tiny as possible when i leave this world..

thanks to all who shared with me..and informed me of their situations elsewhere in the world..

When I came to Portugal, 30 years ago my grandparents still had one of these. If the prices keep going up like this I guess we will have to go back in time and use them again blink.gif ohmy.gif
Can you imagine where people who live in an apartement will park them??!!!!!

lol..you are soo right..that is a very nice sketch i really like it. smile.gif what is the price there in portugal my dear if i may ask..

this thread has been good for me to see what ppl are paying around the world and to ensure me that we are not alone in the need to come up with alternative fuel supplies

like i keep telling my hubby, "i have always wanted a pony" wink.gif
Kaly

Well this is no pony this is a donkey just like my grandparents had one.

They just rased the prices TODAY ohmy.gif

Between 1.32 and 1.46 Euros a litre depending on what gas you use.
in US dollars that would be 2.05 and 2.27 per litre
For comercial cars its a little lower but not much , I'm not sure how much it is now

1 Gallon is 3.79 Litres
So that must be about 5.00 to 5.53 US Dollars per Gallon
Not to forget that our minimam salary is about 400Euros a month (622.35 USD)
And minimam pensions for retired people, over 65 years of age and enable people (like myself) get 236euros a month (367.19 USD)

I like this guy's healthy method of boycotting big oil and working out his frustrations with gas prices. I know, it's not practical for everyone. biggrin.gif

Despite daily headlines bemoaning record gas prices, the U.S. is actually one of the cheaper places to fill up in the world.

Out of 155 countries surveyed, U.S. gas prices were the 45th cheapest, according to a recent study from AIRINC, a research firm that tracks cost of living data.

Rank Country Price/gal
1. Sierra Leone $18.42
2. Aruba $12.03
3. Bosnia-Herzegovina $10.86
4. Eritrea $9.58
5. Norway $8.73
6. United Kingdom $8.38
7. Netherlands $8.37
8. Monaco $8.31
9. Iceland $8.28
10. Belgium $8.22
111. United States $3.45

When Katrina hit it damaged oil rigs all over, and in short prevented production, however the us government says they are having a time repairing them which is a lot of bs. they are just taking advantage of the political times to screw the common man/woman even further then they all ready have. just this morning I paid 3.91 a gallon us

sleep.gif Well, as of last night Michigan's gas prices since last week dropped a few cents and I paid 3.57 for a gallon of gas and saw the gas station across the street had it for 3.55 a gallon. Last week we were paying 3.69 to 3.75. It just p***es me off that the governments or people in charge of gas distribution can up and lower the prices whenever they feel like it. With my husband having to drive at least 480-500 miles a week and gas as high as it is, it gets quite exspensive. His work is 45 miles away and he has been having to work over time, so that a lot of miles a week. I know we are paying at least $100 a week to fill up just his vehicle and luckily I don't really have to go anywhere during the day most of the week unless its just around town, but we all know that just around town with the constant stop and go and not expressway driving eats more of our gas. But, unless everyone WORLDWIDE boycots and just stop driving for at least a week at the same time, there is nothing us little light weights can do about it but grin and bear it. sad.gif

And here in Holland I have to drive, just to come to my job and back home, about 160 km (about 80 miles?) a day. Apart form that this short distance takes me, because of the jam, almost 5 hours a day, and I am also using more gas, just standing still for more than 3 hours.

I am afraid our gouvernment will not solve this problem because they are making a lot of money out of that.

I had choosen to buy a car using LPG which is more friendly for our environment, but the price of LPG is connected to the gas prices so it increased by 50% over the last 2 years. Moreover the gouvernement takes the taxes (in percentage of the price) plus VAT, so most of my money is spent not on the gas, but it is just taxes (that seems to be somehere aroud 75% of the total price). In my opinion we are all robbed by the oil companies and our governemements.

The nett profit of Shell (just an example) raised by 24,7% in the first quarter of this year.

What can we do against this robbery? Check this!!
