Many drawing subjects, including frontal views of faces, etc., look more believable when drawn the same on both sides.

I'm amazed to see how simple it is to see "mistakes" when you turn your page sideways or upside down.
This is a great lesson.

This is now something I practice before settling down to any serious drawing. I can really tell this tutorial has helped my accuracy and symmetry improve.
A big thank you Brenda.

I looked at this exercise and thought, "Wow, this looks so easy!" It proved to be much more difficult than I predicted. This lesson made me realize that symmetry is an area I really need to work on, and I'm glad I discovered this early so it'll make drawing things a lot easier in the future! Thanks.

This was an interesting exercise. I used graph paper which helped alot with the shape alignment on both sides. I still need alot of practice on symetry.

Mine reminds me of a cobra
For some reason, I started this area of lessons with 'Two faces and a Vase', so this one was a bit easier than that.

This lesson still helped me understand symmetry better, though.

I am a bit confused... Is it more a "free hand" exercise or virtual measurements and shape decomposition should be done???

This is really a fun! I enjoyed coloring it in. I did pretty good for my first try. The lines between the curves were the most challenging for me. I had to erase mine and start over because I had them backwards. It didn't look like a mirror. Then it turned out alright. I suppose I will do the others as apart of my daily 5-10min exercises.

This lesson was daunting ...lol I definitely need to work on my symmetry. I am finally posting my 'attempts' at these first three lessons in my gallery, I have decided to make this a warm-up exercise since 'practice makes perfect'!

I wouldn't say that this looks bad. I don't like to make judgements on artwork too much. Each has it's own unique qualities. I think it looks pretty cool.

But I think these are wonderful exercises.

Hi There, okay I admit, the curves look fine. I wasn't good with the left though, I started the right on the symmetry then I did left.. maybe I should have done left first then right...

I just gave up after trying it three times. I simply cannot get the same shape on both sides!!! Here is the best result I could get plus my own design, I also colored it. As I said, I never managed it although I tried all day! It was fun though. Thanks Brenda

I am so glad now that I decided to start at the beginning of the beginner lessons, even though I felt I was definitely more "advanced" than that. I realy thought this would be easy and fast. I figured I would whip out the first one and then follow it with all the other extra symmetry examples given in this lesson maybe even coloring the best one for fun, all before breakfast. Hahahaha...40 minutes later I was finishing up the first exercise and re-evaluating the whole time thing. I am definitely in the camp with the others that feel they need to work on symmetry. The wonderful thing though is how much better my third exercise turned out than the first one. Only one day, and one lesson, and I see a change already. How much better does it get than that? Adding this exercise to my daily routine for certain. Thank you.

Great exercise. It's interesting how important symmetry is. I've been practicing heart shapes. Its' amazing how a simple drawing such as a valentine heart can seem difficult regarding symmetry for the unexperienced as myself. Thanks for the lesson. My brain is getting better at learning to see.
