Full Version: Weekly Drawing Challenge 20th - 26th September
Drawspace forums > Activities and Challenges > Challenges
Garyfallia
Hi everyone ,

My name is Garyfallia and I will be hosting this challenge !

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 6 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

I want some prismacolor pencils because I have some but I have the scholar kind and I want the premier kind because I think it's probably better. I want to ask them for my birthday from my mom but I think she forgot about it because my birthday is in 2 weeks and she didn't even ask me what I wanted yet sad.gif

hi Jasper,
Welcome to Drawspace. I hope you enjoy it here. The people here are great, very supportive and also very talented. Be sure to drop in the Drawspace Cafe, lots of not necessarily art conversations there.
I really like what you have done for this drawing challenge. Your cross hatching is very well done.

I'm not sure what's my mom's address actually, I just know she lives about 6 hours away from me. She left my dad a few years ago and now lives with her boyfriend. I never went to visit her because I have no money to go visit. But she doesn't come very often either. Last time I saw her was over a year ago. She told me she would come in August then she changed her mind. My sisters and I aren't too happy with her since she left us. So i'm not sure she remembers actually.

Mindy, gorgeous job on this flower, I am not sure if it is a peony or not. Your shading is very nicely done.

Thanks Trish. I'll ask my mom, she knows the names for everything floral.

I also attempted the leaf in the water. These weekly challenges are nice motivation to try new things. wink.gif

I agree with Mindy these challenges have made me draw things I would not normally attempt. This site and all its members is truely a fantastic learning and support tool.
So Thanks everyone!

Jon

Just a quicky.
Colour pencil on printer paper.

Great pictures Garyfallia!
Thank you for hosting.

As I was walking away from this this morning, I couldn't help but feel that it needed some contrasting colour to give it depth.
So I went back in with a purple pencil for the yellow shaded areas and a green pencil for the red shaded areas.
Cool what a little contrasting colour will do.

It certainly gave it more depth, not so flat, great addition.
