Hi Jessi!
Welcome aboard! I rarely have any time at all to time to peek in on the forum, but today I found your post. First of all, thank you for being here.
I hope you discover some unique approaches to art within my curriculum that bring you back to successes. Also, within this forum, you have an opportunity to learn from the artistic journeys of thousands of other artists. However, keep in mind that the day you are totally happy with your work is the day your inner artistic eye will close.
In addition to the peaceful teachings of all religions, my partner and I also live our lives according to the wisdom and philosophy of Buddhism.
Brenda
I've already started reading through your lessons, Brenda, and I have to appreciate your thorough and detailed approach. I had one experience with a life drawing teacher at University that was so frustrating and depressing. We would have a few hours to draw the model using charcoal, and if our lighting or proportions were wrong, he would just wipe the whole page with a chamois and say, "you're not drawing what you see, you're drawing what you think you should see, start over." He gave us nothing to build on other than knowing we were wrong.
I'm also tickled that my first response was from you! Thank you for taking the time to reply, and thank you for offering this opportunity. I feel like art education as a whole is suffering, and the internet is accessible to so many. You're doing a truly great thing here.
Also, it's great to meet other people familiar with Buddhist teachings. The Buddhist community in my area is very limited, so maybe one day, when you have a few spare minutes, we could chat.

Welcome, Jessi! I hope you'll make yourself at home here. There's weekly drawing challenges in the Challenges Forum, There's monthly ATC (art trade cards) exchanges in the General Forum, some very interesting member-made tutorials in the Tutorials section (including one of Marilyn Monroe that I'm following), and an extensive selection of free drawing lesson tutorials that Brenda has supplied us with, to name just a few fun things here.

Thank you, Mindy! I'm working my way through the site today and am so far really liking what I see. I think a big part of my recent slump has been a lack of motivation, and having something solid like a challenge or a tutorial to sink my teeth into might work. I also know that the longer I go without working, the harder it is for me to get started again, so the wide variety of choices will hopefully keep me busy.
I love that you're working on a Marilyn tutorial! My favorite artist is Andy Warhol, and though he wasn't much on traditional technique or even drawing at all, he chose the image of Marilyn Monroe to illustrate his ideas about the connection between celebrity and mass marketing. Her face is both beautiful and iconic, and I think it makes for wonderful subject matter.
