There are so many newcomers arriving lately that I find it difficult to keep up with the introductions so I will add a couple of lines here which will be my welcome on behalf of Drawspace to anyone who wanders this way.
I have been involved with Drawspace for a few months, initially as a lurker, more recently as participant and moderator. You can't ask for a better group of receptive, interesting, talented, kind, knowledgable and willing people who will always respond to your questions whether about art or about art-related topics. Just ask.
Spend time navigating your way through the discussion threads and have a look in the gallery for members to see the various styles and levels of expertise there. The Inspirational gallery may have just the reference image for you to practice your technique. Or try one of the Drawing Challenges. There's no test, no stress. Just pure enjoyment.
And the lessons. Brenda's lessons are the backbone of this site and the inspiration for so many who come here to learn the basics on the road to artistic freedom. Work your way through them, store them, print them, use them. Practice is the key.
So grab a cup of coffee or tea, browse your way through the threads, enjoy yourself and when you're ready, post a few lines to introduce yourself, ask a question or share your work with others.
Welcome.
Eric

Welcome to Drawspace... I think you will find that ALL the people here are very kind and helpful ..the lessons are awsome and the way Brenda has set this all up it makes it very user friendly ...if I wore a hat it would be off to all the people that make this site what it is .. and that means the members too ..so enjoy and look around and try one of the lessons or be real brave and try the challenges lol .
Kim
Oh and us latecomers we were not lucky enough to have been here for the speedos...but from the rumors I hear they were pretty small .. LOL
I was still giggling from the comments about pinups and speedos. Then I read Kims. All I can say is don't laugh with a mouthful of tea. You can't swallow and it has to go somewhere. (like,

on your desk)
It's a good thing Eric knows we love and appreciate him.

Hi to all.
I too am new here.
This is my first post I hope I will get this right.
I also posted a few drawings in the gallery.
I was so happy when I found this site last December, with all of the drawing lessons and all.
I've been drawing for some time, mostly at work during lunch on napkin.
I call it my napkin art. I also have to draw on wood when I do carvings.
This is a great site, and the peoples seems so friendly and helpfull.
Thank for putting this site on line it's just great, I've learn a lot in just a few weeks.
Till next time

The lessons are very well thought out and Very informative. (Even the beginning tuts)

A+ drawing site>>>>even added to my favorites.
I have taken MANY drawing classes in college, these lessons would take on most of the classes I attended.

[font=Microsoft Sans Serif][size=7]Hello, all. I have been lurking for a while and thought I might say hi. I have enjoyed this site very much and must admit I found it out of sheer desperation. I was asked to teach 'Art" at a small private school to K-6th graders at the last minute in August of last year. The principal handed me the curriculum and said it was wide open and step by step easy. It turned out to be a weekly craft project - something they could manufacture in 30 minutes and have something to 'take home' every time. I've been 'crafty' all my life and have tried a few sketches and watercolors, but I always got very discouraged and moved on. I realized that this has probably happened to each of these kids. So I found this website among a few others and started doing the exercises and actually 'learned' the basics of sketching and drawing. I started passing on these simple basics to my kids and VOILA - confidence abounds! I even see some of my Kindergarteners shading stick figures! It's wonderful! Last week my 5th and 6th graders begged me to ditch the papier mache bobble heads and pull names from a hat to 'sit' for each other and try drawing profiles!! I've been asked by a local homeschool cooperative to teach a six week course to some of their kids and they have a waiting list of 120! Do you think there's a need out there? You bet!! I can't tell you how much this website has helped me, but more importantly, has boosted the confidence of 43 kids who now feel like they CAN draw!
All this to say, I have seen the posted work of a few of you and you guys are GREAT! Have you ever considered teaching? Homeschool parents who fearlessly tackle algebra and Chaucer cringe at the thought of teaching simple drawing and sketching! There are lots of parents of private and public school kids out there who would love to have just the basics taught to their children. So many who teach are established artists who charge big bucks - you could charge nominal fees or even volunteer!
Consider it - what better thing to do in this life than encourage a child?
Thanks for reading. I'll be back to chat soon!

Cal,
My wife is an art teacher at a Catholic school. She too was expected to do crafty stuff for refrigerators, but she refused and instead tries to teach the skills, terminology and history to develop an appreciation for art and artists. The first few years were a struggle getting past the parents with empty refrigerators, but six years later, they love her. This year we are considering opening an "Art Camp" for the very same reasons you mention.

Hi! I'm new too...well, kind of. hehe. I have been getting the Creative Lines Newsletter for some time now, and honestly, I don't even remember how or when I subscribed to it. And I feel so ridiculous saying this, but I didn't even realize there was a forum here!

My sister was just talking to me this morning about how I seem to be losing my mind lately. sheesh.
Anyway, I just wanted to put in my two cents and introduce myself and say that this seems to be a great place. And the drawing lessons are awesome.

Hi Everyone!
I'm a French, NewBee, Gal, from NB, and I was recently introduced to this site by a friend!
I'm still in the process of exploring the site and getting familiar with it. For what I can see I'm getting a warm feeling of wanting to try drawing again!
It would be interesting to see what my abilities would be now with the help of these great lessons.
Its a wonderful site and seem to have wonderful people with great talent.
Looking forward to meeting and giving a whirl at it! It looks like alot of fun!!!

Hello everybody!
I've tried once to present myself but, I think because I introduced a link in my message, it didn't appear.
Anyway, my name is Alina and I'm from Romania.
I draw since I was little, but I never payed so much attention to my drawings and I was drawing for myself and didn't show to the others.
Once, I draw somethin for my boyfriend and I gave it to him. He loved it and encouraged me to draw more. So... I've looked on the internet and I found you. I've read closely Beginner's lessons and I've looked over all other.
Thank you for being here when I needed you and thank you for your help!
Best regards!
Alina

Hello Alina,
People here are very friendly and all you need to do is ask for help when in trouble. Check galleries si vei vedea ca multi sunt abia la inceput, iar unii nici n-au postat (subsemnatul)

. UIta-te pe lectii, sunt de bun simt si accesibile pentru toti.
Bun venit!

Hello, Im new.
I have also been lurking around checking out the site and the artwork for a while now.. The lessons are really great too!
Like Calagara, I have recently found myself in a teaching position. Teaching portraiture to adults in evening classes, once a week. Being 23, it was quite scary.. On the first lesson I was doing a demonstration, drawing a sitter from life, and explaining my every step as I went. While the others were also drawing the girl trying to follow me. few!
So yeah, I found this site while browsing the net for some basics cos i had no idea where to begin at first.. Then I signed up and have been recieving newsletters since. At the moment I'm not teaching , as I'm actually a full time tafe student of graphics/multimedia. Juggling a few things..
I have been drawing all my life. I love it and I hate the fact that so many creative people(designers..so on) dont actually draw much themselves. Sorry about rambling on, I think I'm just one of those people who cant shup up about a topic that I'm so passionate about. I'd like to get to know you guys, and share thoughts ideas and drawings with you.. and the challenges look tasty! think I'll give them a go sometime soon.

thanx

Brian, I was reading your interests and I am asking myself why do you want to wait for doing your own comic strip "one day"..? Just do it! you are passionate about it so why not starting. How should Disney know about you when you are not out? The internet provides so many opprtunities to publish your own boks or comic strips...and you will gain experience just by doing it.
