Hello,
I noticed in the gallery a few split portraits that look like half a photo and half drawing? Are those a technique for a WIP or are they meant to be half/half like that when done? If its a technique someone is using, please could you direct me to the right thread so I could read about it. Thanks!

Rainy, the idea of the split portrait is borrowed by me from Selo's artwork Half. I don't know how he used it and for what purpose but for me it's great to learn to draw quick and accurate a portrait that has some likeness more than you can achieve by freehand. I don't consider it freehand because you measure the face. What I did yesterday was to print a photo the size i want it for my drawing and cut it in two halves. One half I put on the drawing board(you fix it with a clip eventually) and the other half you draw by measuring. The photo half will be excellent guidance. It's you have half of face, half mouth, nose, one eye, etc. So you cannot go wrong on size and position. It can be artwork with half the photo in it or you can finish by drawing the rest of the portrait, i.e the other half.I used this method for two portraits, one is better than i can draw freehand the other is a little bit more square the face than in the photo but i'm still learning to do it. Thanks for asking. I guess for beginners can be a step forward.
