In a fun project, you exercise your brain, vision, and drawing skills with a traditional optical illusion in which you see two different images within the same drawing.

This lesson was very well laid out, even if it did repeat itself a few times!

But I can deal with that. It was fun to make different shaped faces and vases. Mine was a VERY wide vase, like a flower pot, because I placed my faces at the far ends of my big piece of paper. I asked my family if they could see both images, and they could! And they knew what they were! lol I don't draw humans, I mostly draw horses and dragons. But mostly horses! I love this site.

I never seemed to have a problem flicking from the faces to the vase when I first saw this illusion. Drawing it is also fun too.
Actually I would not be surprised if this helps out with drawing actual faces later on.

This lesson was pretty amazing. I've always been able to see both the faces and the vase, so I didn't think much of it. There I was drawing the second half, trying to just concentrate on the lines and shapes, but still subconsciously seeing faces. I thought it looked symmetrical, but when I tried to see the vase--boom--all these mistakes jumped out at me!
Our brain is so good at seeing faces that it just covers up all the errors and shows us what we want. Looking at the picture as a vase shows us the actual shapes and forms.
Very cool.

Did anyone manage to get a perfect second face to make the vase? I did six and they where a little out each time.

Mine were a little off, too, but I could see improvement in them. Perhaps I am a little impatient and should devote more time to the task.

This was way more difficult than I anticipated. My right and left brain do not see the same thing, so the right side never looks the same as the left side.

Thanks for the amazing lessons!

This one took me forever! Once i got the Nose/Mouth/Forehead symmetrical, the chin and neckline were wrong. Haha

. I wonder if I'll be doing the advanced lessons by the time I'm seventeen

This was a good lesson. My 2nd face didn't turn out exactly like the first face but is does resemble it. I did pretty good for the first try.

This lesson was great! I actually had an easier time on this one that the simple symmetry. While it is still not perfect (what is?) I felt not only the brain switch (eerie!) but like I was accomplishing the task without the major struggle, a struggle yes but not like a week ago!

I just did this lesson. Turned out bad, but not so bad as I expected. So there is hope...... After that I did a vase from a picture of my mother. The faces looked like two gorillas (by the way, my mom doesn't). Ah well, I'll say I did it from a picture of a gorilla and it turned out just as it should

Here is my lame attempt at the faces and a vase exercise. It shows how much practice I need at completing the simple exercises.

Did it in 2 minutes. Inked because the picture wouldn't show up properly. Not sure why it looks crooked at the bottom left lol. It's perfectly fine on paper.

A great tutorial....... it is amazing once you master it how you can switch the right side of your brain on and off.
This website is fantastic and a vital tool.

No, it wasn't easy... I don't know how many I tried... This is the final version and the reference photo. In the photo: me watching the sea.

I liked this exercise but had a hard time feeling like I was switching to my right brain. I tried turning the paper different directions, as suggested, but found it so much easier to be accurate when the paper was straight. Maybe I just need to keep practicing these to get my right brain in gear!

Try it. You might surprise yourself!

this topic challenges me. I don't draw human faces and i have difficulty in drawing symmetry.
i started with the first face and then for the second half of the face, what i do is use the ruler and draw each part, making sure it is aligned with the first face. so I move my ruler down as I move along each section. There are a lot of erasures.
The result? a face and a sort of chalice/vase!
I love how passion can drive you into not giving up.

This lesson was great. I could really feel my brain working. I had alittle trouble with the second face but with effort I made it almost exactly like the first.
It turned out well.
It was lots of fun.
