It has been suggested that a moderator start a tread for art books for trade.

All members of Drawspace who are interested in trading art related books or supplies are welcome to post their material for trade or sale along with related information in this section.

It is suggested that anyone who has fairly new or used articles for trade, to give away, or for sale, to post photos of the articles in this thread to show the condition of the articles. Addresses and other personal information should be communicated through email or private messages.

Caveat: All transactions must be privately arranged between the members involved through email or pm messages. Drawspace.com, Brenda Hoddinott, and the administrators of Drawspace are in no way affiliated with or responsible for the quality of articles or delivery of articles given, traded or sold through this venue.

THis idea of artbooks trade is great and i would say that it can be even more fun if the receiver will trade it again it after reading/studying it for a few months. THis will make drawspace a close-knit community of apprentices into the arts secrets. So art books that rotate among members. How about that?

Elena,

While your idea is a very worthwhile one , as a bibliophile I find it very hard to let go of any books that I have enjoyed. blush.gif

I for one am a hoarder so that in 5 years, when I want to check on something, the book is there to do that.

Actually this one is for the powers that be on the site.

As an adjunct to this thread a sticky that lists book reviews would be a great help to old & new alike. Something where the Title, Author and Publisher is listed - along with a scan of the cover if possible, followed by whether it is a book to benefit novice, intermediate or advanced person, and why you recommend that book.

There are a number of books mentioned throughout the various threads, but to have them in a sticky that people could come back to, to arrange their next book from the library, their Xmas wishlist ....or even their own little indulgent purchase, would be a great asset to this site.

Just a thought that I hope may find its way into being.

smile.gif Sue, actually there is a thread that was created with your suggestion, it was pinned in the threads for quite a while and then got unpinned and lost in the shuffle. I will try to find it again and pin it once more as there was some great book suggestions in the thread.

happy.gif But, I think this thread was created for people that no longer wished to use certain books anymore. I know when I first got back into art, I couldn't read enough of them and have accumulated quite a collection. Some I have given away others are just collecting dust. I will go through them sometime this week and get them all sorted and scanned to post here for anyone interested.

tongue.gif But, I'll warn now, they won't have anything to do with colored pencils...LOL.

Now that is cheeky Venus - keeping the coloured pencil ones all to yourself tongue.gif

Actually I have a collection of articles (nine volumes of 3 ring binders blush.gif ) that I clip from "Australian Artist" and "Artists Palette" magazines, and I have them separated into the various mediums. I keep going back to those for the step-by-step demos plus all the handy tips that seem to just leak out of my brain!

Thanks for chasing up that other thread too - you're a Champ!! smile.gif
Venus
smile.gif Sorry, Sue, but its my main media of choice. I need them as much as we all breathe air!!! LOL, seriously though I use them for practicing and experimenting if I want to try something new, which other than burnishing and blending with a colorless blender I haven't experimented that far yet, so I still need them to learn from. ohh, and I also won't give my book by Brenda Hoddinott, I bought The Complete Idiots Guide to Drawing People, last year...we see how far I have gotten with that.... happy.gif

Good idea. I'm sure we all have cupboards or shelves with lots of books on them or magazines. Like Bigs however, I tend not to part company with them unless they really aren't something that I like - perhaps given as a gift for instance.

However, there is also the option of art materials for sale or trade. We all have bought things that we get home and dislike, from paper to pastels and I would likely be more prone to sell or trade those rather than my books.

I started that book review list some time ago and its somewhere in the ether. I think it should be captured again and added to, as it would be very beneficial to see a review of a book before buying it.

Edited: Book reviews

I see it has been found and pinned again. smile.gif

I would LOVE to get ahold of Gary Greene's Color pencil videos. Anyone want to loan them out? I've got several books I could offer up as a permanent/temporary trade.

I'll post back later with the list I have.

This is very nice idea..I myself have a set of gioconda hard pastels that I would be willing to sell/trade..I`m currently in a bit of rush but i`ll post them ASAP.. smile.gif
Exactly
Great Idea. Well this is where it all started for me. It is a relatively simple but powerful and to-the-point book. (BRB you are one of my favourite artists on this site) blush.gif

tongue.gif Jeanette, that would have been me after going through many pages of old threads to find it as I couldn't remember the name of the thread..LOL.

wink.gif Exactly, great artist to help guide you with portraits. When I started back with my drawing I purchased Lee Hammond's "Big Book of Drawings" for the colored pencil work and the pencil work. I think had it not been for that I would have lost interest.

happy.gif Tvissoc, have you tried your local library? They may have some in stock or be able to acquire them for you if you ask. Or at least it never hurts to try. cool.gif
