Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has any information about getting started in being a police sketch artist. I have no formal training but have learned alot from reading books, looking at websites like this, and lots of practice.
I am currently a police officer and I drawing portraits has always been my favorite, so why not. I've been practicing at this but was wondering if anyone has any good advice or good resource material for this. I'm hoping that if I can prove myself in this my department will get me further training in this.
Thanks for any information.

You should ask Brenda herself because that's what she did or still does. Not sure.

Hi Jmusser,

welcome to Drawspace! I agree with Rsine Brenda was a police artist for many years and I bet could give you great guidance, but if I was you I would learn about and practise forensic art , human anatomy, along with figure drawing. I believe to be a Police sketch artist you must be extremly skilled and I am sure may take several years to develope the skills reqired.

Best of luck, Brian.

I found this site to be interesting it is a complete job description of the title... Police artist or Forensic artist...I would also try to get in touch with the artist in your division if you have one and ask questions.
