Hi all,

This is my first post here. I stumble on this forum by accident and was so impressed with some really wonderful drawings here.

I like drawing a lot and I am a concept artist in a game design company. This is just a sketch I did in 45mins. It is for a concept character that I did for a comic that I intend to start working on. The character should look about 8 - 10 years old, have a sad look but inside is a very kind and profound boy. The eyes should cast a mature mind compared to his age. Hope you like it. C/C welcome.

Thanks

concept artist eh? That's what I want to do *sigh* one day, one day, haha

Pretty cool sketch, beautifully drawn. Though I think he looks a little older than 8 - 10, but I can't quite place why

Daaaaaaaaaang Kevin, that was AWESOME!!! ph34r.gif
I think the reason for him looking older than 8-10 is the railing behind him. My boy is 10 and if he were to stand by a railing, the rail would be around his bellybutton or higher (he is average in height for his age). With his slouch and the placement of the railing gives the impression of a 16 year old.
HOWEVER, I LOVE the work. Please stick with us, as we can use all the feedback we get, and we would love to have a look at what you are accomplishing.
Cheers, and WELCOME.

Hi everyone,

I never expected to get that much reply in only one day. Thanks a lot for your comments, I really appreciate. In fact, the reason for my posting was because I did felt that there was something with the drawing that did not reflect the 8-10 years old and this is why I wanted other artistic eyes to have a look at it. This is a very good observation regarding the railings horsewhisperer, I would have never been able to figure out that it might be the railings but I think that you are right about that. I do also think that the body is a bit too old for the age I want to show. Anyway I will try it in some other poses and see what it gives, but I admire this observation of yours regarding the railings. Thanks for your comments.

Lizzeh, you never get what you want sometimes but you always get what you choose, so choose wisely. I am sure that if you put the will, the determination and some practice, you will get there, I have no doubt about that. Everything depend on how much you want it.

Kevin, that is truly amazing! I must say doing that in 45 mins must be nothing compared to the actual pieces you put together for your work. I hope you really do stick around here, cause there are so many people asking about how to do this type of work. Being directly in the profession would greatly help us in providing some noteworthy information about this branch of art.

You certainly did provide all the things you were looking to achieve in your thoughts on this particular character. I like how you wrote out your thought processes on what you wanted to achieve prior to putting the pen to the paper. This kind of presentation is fabulous for those people desiring this information. I think that HW is right when he described the part about the railing. I have an 11-year old daughter and his description certainly fits for her as well. And what you said about the body may also have some bearing on the visual age description as well. His body does look a little older than his facial. And you certainly did get those mature eyes right, he has the look of pure mischief!
