Venus
biggrin.gif Hello, My name is Venus and I am this weeks challenge host. All of the pictures presented were taken by me for this challenge. EVERYONE is welcome and the guidelines are provided...

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that's fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that's great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavors to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

So here are the photos we have for this weeks challenge:

1. My daughter Patience.
2. Candle Vase
3. Neighbor's Tulips
4. A pretty tree with tons of flower blooms.

I hope you all enjoy the pictures, and I look forward to seeing everyone's work.... happy.gif

I tried to upload to 'my albums'. The first one worked OK but the next one took 3 attempts, each time doing the same thing! Finally got 2 on, but still can't get this challenge loaded.
mumwond
Finally!!! I enjoyed the drawing, but not the 'upload experience'!!

Wow, looks like Patience is a popular girl this week... bet she'll love seeing all the drawings of her.
I tried the candle-holder. It was really difficult for me, but this is my best shot. Of course I had to add some color, the blue glass was just too pretty. Colored with pastel pencil (just bought them, LOVE them!)
Kaly
Very nice drawings everyone

Roman that is fantastic.

here's my candle vase glass, very dificult for me to draw glass, so this was really a challenge.

Roman29
Great job everyone and thank you for your comments.

Great Job John

I'm sorry folks, I've been too busy to participate for a few weeks. This is one McDermott I don't think I've drawn before, so I carved out a quarter-hour for her. I captured the fun in her eyes but not the beauty.

Ernest - great job....a drawing that looks like a drawing; is it from life or a photo?

John

Thanks for comments on Patience drawing; the reproduction is bad as usual, even after trying to correct the scan in Irfanview. I'm going to try copying with the digital camera to see if the image quality can be improved. The skin has a tone laid down with 2H and it is being lost along with the lighter shading tones. (note: no grid was used, but I am doing layout measurements)
My hat is off to those of you doing the glass vase...it's over my head(but not my hat) huh.gif

John
Venus
biggrin.gif WOW, Patience is indeed popular at the ripe age of 3 years old!! Everyone is doing a fantastic job at drawing her!! Ernest I like yours, it kind of like a caricature in a way.

The candle vases you all are doing are fantastic, everyone who has drawn them so far I give you all an A+++!!

I haven't had time yet this week so far to work on any of the pictures, and seems something on my computer is causing havic with Drawspaces new system, so I haven't been able to get on Drawspace other than as a guest. I am using hubby's computer at the moment and guess what??? NO Problems whatsoever!! Grrrrr....So he is trying to fix mine at the moment so I can participate more...LOL.

I also wanted to add a warm welcome and glad to see you newbies that are here and partcipating in the Drawing Challenge!! It's nice to meet new people. tongue.gif
bkluver
Quick one today - no time this week for really getting into the drawing. But I couldn't NOT draw! Glass is so fun. I also started Venus's little one at home but I don't know if I will get it finished.

Venus
happy.gif Bk, beautiful job!! I love it and there is a week for every weekly challenge but no actual time line of when you can or cant post. So feel free to take your time on my little one and post when you have it done. wink.gif
mrstarstuff
I have revised the drawing of Patience based on a couple of suggestions; I think they are good improvements. One is the background, which was too busy and a distraction so I have blended(smeared) it; also defined her right arm better.
John

Here's my take on Patience. What a beautiful girl! biggrin.gif wub.gif I love kids! Anyway...it took me about 3 hours. Let me know what y'all think! I hope you like it! happy.gif

Hi all,
I think everyone is doing a fantastic job drawing Patience. I have yet to start, very busy, hope to do something later tonight. The candle glass drawings are good too, it takes a brave soul to try glass.
Frank wink.gif
Venus
wink.gif John and Abigail, love your Patience drawings!! Great work. John I agree with the blending it looks a lot better now.

cool.gif Frank, welcome to my drawing challenge, I look forward to seeing your picture!!
Ernest Friedman-Hill
Great job, Abigail!
Cyn
Everyone has done a great job. I was going to draw Patience also, but unfortunately, I tripped on my front step and ran my hand into the wall and broke my knuckles. wacko.gif My son that has the leg injury hobbled to the door to see what hit the house and I told him it was just his graceful mother. laugh.gif Most of you remember that a few months ago I impaled my other hand on a broken tree branch and had a lot of stitches and a plastic surgeon. This time I broke the knuckles and the back of my hand. Well, actually I collapsed a knuckle too. But my fingers kind of work. The rest just looks like a blueberry. And I am trying to be an artist? guffaw! rolleyes.gif tongue.gif .
paulette4
Cyn I am special delivering you some bubble wrap!
Take care of yourself!
Ernest Friedman-Hill
Oh, my God, Cyn! sad.gif

Forget the bubble wrap, she needs a bodyguard!

Please, please, please take better care of yourself, dear!
Kaly
sad.gif Oh Cyn I'm so sorry for you, I just hope you get better very very soon wub.gif
Cyn
Thank you my wonderful friends..

Paulette, I will gratefully take the bubble wrap, biggrin.gif
and Ernest I would love a body guard. laugh.gif
and thank you Kaly, honey for the get well wishes.. wub.gif

You are all so dear.. Like Brian said, "Oh no, Not again". laugh.gif laugh.gif
Venus
ohmy.gif OMG Cyn!!! Forget the bubble wrap and body guard, you need someone to just duct tape you to a chair!! That way you can't go anywhere and keep injuring yourself!! I hope you get better soon and they heal fastly. ((((( BIG HUGS for you!!!!)))))) tongue.gif
Cyn
laugh.gif Venus, the duct tape may be the best idea yet..

I couldn't resist Patience. I held the pencil between the brace and my finger and sometimes between my least damaged fingers. I may have found a new and better way to draw faces that works for me. It takes a lot of time, and I still have to erase a LOT with my left hand. tongue.gif Of course she is beautiful and I am no expert at this.... blink.gif
Brian David Dekter
I sent Cyn a card last night titled...Not again!!!! and yet

I can't believe she manages to pull off such a wonderful drawing.

Hope your feeling better Cyn Kid wub.gif
ElenaM
Cyn, you are a fighter! You came back with a revenge and drew this nice portrait which is actually very good. Bravo! I admire you!
Kaly
wow Cyn, now that must have been a real challenge, drawing with a hurt hand, and a great drawing too wub.gif . You are unbalieveble wub.gif
