So, since it is important to have my drawing space I had to clean my studio and make room for a corner where I can concentrate all my drawing arsenal, pencils, crayons, oil pastels, erasers, sharpener, brushes, etc.
here it is my drawing corner:

Do you have a drawing space? How does it look like?

Hi Elena,

Now that spring cleaning is over I guess it is as good a time as ever to show you my workspace. I'm one of those lucky ones that has space. I can tell you it is a pleasure to work on a drawing table for those larger drawings. It's also great to have wall space to hang the kids' drawings and art work. There's no more room on the frig. The only down side of my workspace is that there is not enough sunlight.

The drawing currently on the table is for my Dad for father's day. I posted a smaller format of the same scene in my gallery recently. I added clouds to this one. I need to finish it for the 10th to make sure the Swiss Post gets it to him on time.

If you're interested there was a topic on this back in Feb. 07. Maybe the people who posted back then can share the changes they have made since?

this is my very messy drawing space - not as organised as the other two shown!

I don't tend to draw/paint here now the evening light is better - tend to sit in the conservatory

so during the sprin/summer this is just my base for all my equipment plus hairdryers, combs, hair bobbles - what ever anyone tries to get away with dumping! The light on the table has a daylight bulb in it so I can continue painting when it's dark!
mmmmmmme
I'm just a beginner, so I don't have a lot of supplies. So far I have a set of Derwent pastel pencils, a beginner set of drawing supplies, some cheap colored pencils for my current project (Looney Tunes card exchange), and also a starter set of watercolor pencils that I haven't experimented with yet.

We're moving soon, so temporarily I use a fold-out table with all my stuff out and ready for those few minutes here & there that I can sit and draw. I keep it right on the side of the main living room, so it's easy access - instead of being stuck in some back room. I'm a big fan of simplicity, hate clutter. Besides, when you have to pick up & move every 3 years you learn to live simply. cool.gif

Great pics here of your drawing space.I didn't have idea that this topic have been around a year ago. Thanks for telling me.

lets see...hubby bought me one of them drafting tables.i HAD my own craft room, lol

my drafting table is covered with sculpting supplies, my craft room has been taken over by hubby here lately with projects of his own...so i have resorted to my reclining loveseat.. with my laptop on a tv dinner table beside me..i put both recliners out on the loveseat..one side is for me the other for all my pencils
which are kept in a tin and as i use one i put it in a cup..so i dont have to forage for it later on in the drawing..my drawings are generally done in a sketchbook and that i put on my lap...lowering and lifting my knees as i need to...and occasionally when weather permits i take my stuff outdoors on my picnic table..

Well, here is my drawing table. . . its new to me, but I got it used and almost free. Before that I used my computer desk to draw. Its fun to see other's art set up!

P.S. That funny, stick-looking thing in the photo is my dog's tail! As always, she has to help with whatever I am doing.

Okay - I have to admit, this is where I usually sit and draw. I have two drawing tables, one large one set up upstairs and a smaller one folded up in my small front room (library/music/computer, etc. room) but I can be found with my legs pulled up under me, very comfy in the corner of my big couch with a small board or even just a magazine or sketchpad under my drawing, my pencil and eraser on the table in front of me along with a cup of cappuccino or Chai tea.

Oh, Kay and Barbara, you both draw those wonderful artworks on the lap or in the couch, I can't believe it. I thought I was the only one with this habit.Only that now using OPs i had to move to a drawing space.

I even draw with the Oil Pastels on my lap; I lay the box beside me on the couch. I do the same thing with my little watercolors. Of course, when I go big on the watercolors this summer, I will have to move to a table.
oliverandjazz
yep...i am most comfy the same way..legs under me..yorkie crammed in anywhere he can fit..and poodle at my feet.. wink.gif ..every now and then oliver runs off with the kneaded eraser...if i cant find it next to me..i know to search the floor..i think he thinks its a piece of gum..after its dry...guess what..ITS ALL CLEAN..lol biggrin.gif ..ah well...gotta love em wub.gif

There is NO WAY that I could draw on the couch. . . I'd have three large dogs right there trying to help. Mine think I can't do anything without their input. That would likely make for some strange drawings. . . and some discolored dogs esp. when I use the charcoal!

I usually sit on the big armchair with a piece of cardboard on my knee for an easel, pencils, etc on a footstool on one side and the dog lying on the other side. I occasionally am careless enough to drop a pencil, which Dusty proceeds to chew to bits! I have a proper easel which lives in the conservatory and which I use for bigger paintings, but I prefer sitting in the chair in the evenings drawing and 'watching' the TV - I lose track of programs if the drawing is going well.
bkluver
Yes - me, too. I "watch" TV with my husband, but not really. I am usually so engrossed in what I am drawing, I couldn't tell you what happened on the show.
My cat likes to come sit on my lap but knows better if she sees that I am working. I am finally finished having dogs. I love them dearly but they are more work than I want to mess with anymore. It's funny, whenever we've had a dog I was always the one who had to take care of it no matter who said it was their dog! My daughter has three - a good sized lovable mutt, a chocolate lab (half my husband's) and a yellow chihuahua - so I go over there an just enjoy hers!

Hi all,

I think I lucky too, I have plenty of space, I have this room that I changed into an office, this is where I paint, draw, and have my computer, along with all the paper work from my husband's work.
anyway I have a large table about 80cmx150cm I usualy draw on it, and beside it I have a smaller on where I have my computer, I then have another round table in the corner of the office, where I keep all my painting suplies. But when it's warm enought I like to go outside, to my backyard, where I have garden tables, I like to sit in the sun and paint or draw.
Sometimes I also like to sit in the corner of my sofa, with a pillow on my lap and and a big book on top of the pillow making a kind of high table on my lap, that way I don't have to curve myself to draw, this way I can be with my family while they watch TV.
I don't have a camera so I can't show you pics. sorry

Here's my Creation Room:

The desk

I just got the top of the desk about two weeks ago: a radio station across the hallway where I have a "real job" was renovating and updated its recording studio desktops. I asked about the desktop sitting out in the hallway and they said "take it!" Oh, yes! It is piece number one for what I want to set up for my station. It just takes time to put it together. (Ignore the computer cords! I am getting custom boards to cover them up soon.)

And my drawing desk:

About a year and a half ago, I realized after almost 15 years that I didn't have to have a full-sized drafting table to draw on. My parents bought me this writing laptop desk in 2005 and it quickly started becoming where I drew the most. So, I took down the drafting table and I've been drawing on the smaller setup ever since.

well, I have 11 girls and 1 boy whom I adopted, space in general is at a premium. My daughters tend to claim every bit of personal real estate within the home and when they encroach upon me and get me angry they put out the boo-boo lip and I always give in...Men...you know that women just let us think we rule the world, truthfully, we are an enslaved species. wink.gif so anyway, I have no true space unless I share with the dogs sad.gif

Marc

that is sooo funny....i can just imagine what your household must be like for you with 11 girls..and then to get the boy you had to adopt..WOW..that really blows my mind! i bet space is at a premium..even in the LARGEST of spaces..we ladies tend to need lots of room.. biggrin.gif by the photo they are very lovely ladies indeed..lol..we were cramped when i was a child..9 bros 6 sisters, picnic tables for dinner tables..boys at one, girls at the other..my father didnt really have much to do with us girls he left that up to the wife, to bring us up all lady like and skilled in cleaning cooking sewing things like that ya know (oh dont get me wrong he bounced us on his knee and what not, but discipline and permission came from mother...his job was to keep the young men in line and they both had their hands full wink.gif

It is most unfortunate for children that become spoiled...I hate to admit it but everyone of them could burn water!!!!!!!! Nor do they understand the phrase..."please fold those clothes and put them away!"

well, The dogs and I get along famously. Since I am sharing the dogs space we tend to just puppy pile and this tends to leave very little room for art...However, I claimed a walk in closet that is full to the brim with supplies and I have been trying to figure a way to convert it to a space...I have noticed lately though that some female or another is slowly trying to take over the right side, this has become a game of "risk" and I must defend my territory ferociously...In the end I may lose,, I am out gunned, out manned and over matched! bah--humbug!!!!!!!

I don't really have a place to work while I'm in France. I do most of my drawings in the car, just before starting out to college or coming back.

When I'm in Cornwall (UK) I work to this view.

I'm looking for one where one of my sister's cats thought the best use of one of my drawings was a good place to sleep.

Thank you Elena smile.gif It wasn't always like this, I lived in a very tiny house for about 20 years, no extra room, just a tiny living room and two timy bedrooms, then we build our own house, and I made sure we had big rooms, all the paint on the walls, tiles, wood for doors etc where chosen by me cool.gif one of my bath rooms has these nice tiles with irregular glass, pretending bublles with peaces of paper pretending to be fish inside, I love them tongue.gif I happen to have a photo of it biggrin.gif

wow....you go clara! that is a wonderful drawing showing us exactly..you did a great job on that and it is all sooo neat and tidy..my hubby is a neat guy, i on the other hand am always a mess...he would really appreciate this drawing then turn to me and say "see...that is what your area should look like" as he cast a disdainful look around my love seat with books, color pencils, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, shavings and a mess in general...lol ..and i love the very unique tile as well..
