This project is designed to help improve your skills at seeing and drawing lines - especially fuzzy lines, which are the foundation for drawing animals with fur.

If you ever write one, I'd love to have a lesson on how exactly to draw circles and ovals. It seems like we jumped from drawing lines, angles, and curves to using circles in a picture... my circles look terrible.

It was a lot of fun drawing this cute coala!

But I think I've messed it up somewhere... About the circles and ovals I share the same oppinion. And let me tell you mine don't look that good either.

I have trouble with circles and ovals too. So I use light, short strokes and make lots of minor corrections, but it seems to help. My husband (who can draw) said my koala bear looks cute.

really? i personally got tired of those tips saying:
"try rotating your paper and looking at your drawing from different perspectives ..."
"looking at the reflection of your drawing .."
besides that ... this lesson seemed to me rather boring and useless
after finishing the drawing i didn't feel like having learned something new

I got in a hurry while doing this lesson. Drawing the fuzz was the fun part....getting the proportions correct was not easy. Fun lesson.
I had to draw the cute puppy - just because it was cute!

This is a good lesson to learn contour fur. I did good with the fir but could have done better with the snout. It turned out pretty good though.

hey i love this website it really helps me alot because i want to become a great artist. but there is one problem there are some lines u cant see they are to light. it would really help if you can darken them a little the ones you really cant see is in the horse drawing. i couldnt see nothing i skipped that one

I ended up doing Kayla twice, both are posted in my gallery, if you want to see. I like my second attempt much better since I had done several other lessons since then and felt more free and relaxed with my pencil. I liked this lesson, simple yet cute and learning a new technique is always fun!

Just finished this lesson, and enjoyed it very much. I like the way you put skills in very simple projects, that are fun to do and give a result that is very good for my confidence.
Thank you very much.
I don't have a scanner at the moment, I will see if I can scan some things at my office and put my Kayla here.

It was pretty fun, but a little easy
Yes, I know it IS the beginner section, and I'm only doing this so I don't miss anything important that might be mentioned in the later sections.
Edit: To those that will ask about the drawing, I wiped out the signature so you wouldn't know. I like my privacy ;D

Kayla is so cute! Thank you for the tutorial.
When I first learned how to draw circles, I drew them over and over again on top of one another. What turned out looked like a complete mess, but certain lines- the ones I needed for that certain circle- would kind-of jump out for me. I drew very lightly at first, so I just erased all the lines I didn't need.
