Full Version: How to draw a sphere?

Yes you read the title right;

I do not know how to draw a sphere properly.

I realize i must be the dumbest man alive.

All the books talks about drawing the basic shapes first; but i cannot draw a basic shape; especially a sphere.

I'm talking more specifically about the 3 axes (lines (xyz)) on the sphere.

If i look at a sphere with theses lines; i see that it looks right and feels right etc...
But if i draw a circle; i just don't know where the lines (curves) should go.

Amazingly enough; after a couple hours looking for a tutorial on the google; i couldn't find anything... People talks about drawing and tell us to draw simple geometric form for the structure of the body and head but everyone seems to assume everyone is actually able to do this.

I must be the only one who can't.

anyhow, feel free to take a shot at my incompetence; but it would be nice to get a couple of hint here and there in the replies!!

Seriously; if you could help me visualize that circle as a 3d object and help me figure this out; i will be eternally grateful!

Thank you!

I hope I understand your problem correctly. If you want to draw a spherical shape, you need to think in terms of shading. I found this picture, it helps explain what values of shading to apply on a circle to make it look like a 3-dimensional sphere. You might want to browse the lessons offered here to better learn perspective and shading of forms. It takes patience and practice. Hope this helps.

Jeanette Jobson made a good tutorial on this topic. Look into this forumpost.
