Welcome to Snoopy 101 Popeye Challenge July 16th - July 31st



Hello my name is Clara and as Brian has anouced in the Simpson's challenge, I will be your host for the next couple of weeks

I did some research to make a little introduction for this challenge

Popeye was created by Elzie Segar a cartoonist who wrote the strip Thimble Theatre in the late teens and early twenties This strip originally had the characters of Olive Oyl, Ham Gravy (Olive's first boyfriend), Cole and Nana Oyl (Olive's parents) and Castor Oyl. On January 17, 1929, Popeye made his first appearance in the strip. His first words, a reply to the question, "Are you a sailor? were "Ja think I'm a cowboy!" Needless to say, Popeye quickly became the most popular character in the strip and one of the greatest comic characters ever.

The Fleischer brothers, Max and Dave turned him into a cartoon in the early 30s. His first appearance was July 14, 1933 in the cartoon Popeye the Sailor
The Fleischer Brothers worked as newspaper cartoonists before founding their own studio in 1921 to make animated cartoons. In the mid 1920s they produced the first sound-on-film animations. They later created and produced the popular cartoon series Betty Boop (1931 - 39), Popeye the Sailor (1929 - 42), among others.

My challenge;
you just have to Draw one of the reference images that I have provided, or any other from Fleischer brothers characters, in any medium you like and post it.
If you wish to create your very own cartoon, feel free to do so.
If you decide to color in paint shop or photo shop all I ask is that you post your drawing before adding colour.

i think your popeye is awewome...

So I sketched my Olive first and it looked unfinished so i added Bluto for fun. Sorry is not colored.

I have been very busy so I have not yet had an opportunity to start my Popeye drawing , I did came up with this little doodle today....my little stick man couple silly and willie.

I just finished the portrait I was working 5 minutes ago, I had to had it ready today cause I'm offering it for a friends birthday,that is tomorrow! so now I will have more time to dedicate to all of you fantastic friends

Here is Popeye! I did this in about 20-30 minutes, with an HB pencil and went over it in a felt tip pen. I am hoping to do another one or two soon. This was a great idea for a challenge!

Kay, you really made me laugh with this one, but to answer your question well, I did see this competition they where even when I got there and popeye was going for his spinach but I got to the spinach can first so I won

Brian David is the king of cartoons actualy he is the host of this challenge, he just invited me to the host this time

I originally started off participating in the regular weekly challenges and sketched in Cartoons.....I was drawing realism with cartoons and was thrilled many members started calling me the resident Cartoonist.....Kim and Venus gave me a push and asked if I could form a Cartoon thread....the very first cartoon challenge was hosted by Venus and I . It was like Regis and Kelly all over again... although Venus had a different name for the challenges, I decided to call them Snoopy 101. I am thrilled members are joining in and having fun with it, I try very hard to devote as much time into them as I can.

I made a mess with the coloring; would be smart to do the outlines last, but I didn't know any better...

how nice to see father and daugther drawing together, and both doing a great job too

How old is Danielle? her drawing is very good. These cartoons may seem easy to most people but they aren't, and your daugther did a very good job.
Your Popeye is wonderful, even with the black colour of the outlines mixing a litte with the other colors
