Preview lesson C06 - Bitty

Very fun drawing lesson (and I don't even like manga!) marred by a few flaws. First, the beginning is misleading when it says the whole face fits inside the square. The face does, but the hair doesn't. I had to skimp on the hair a bit because I didn't realize that (I guess that'll teach me to jump in without reading the whole lesson).

The other flaw is that several elements are added at the "dark pencil" or pen stage. Shouldn't the parallel lines, eyelashes, etc be sketched in before gone over dark?

Oh wait, one other flaw: The pointy chin/rounded cheeks are tacked on with no warning. Another reading-ahead problem, I suppose.

I enjoyed doing this lesson. I did have the same problems as "desiredusername'. I drew my square too close to the top of the page and didn't have room for all the hair. I also outlined the drawing in ink before I read later about the pointy chin/rounded cheeks. Oh, well, it still looks ok. This is fun for me. I was never able to draw anything before these lessons.

I just done Bitty and she is adorable. I love this type of drawing and I blended her hair in red pencils. I am like OldDad in that I have never heard of Manga, but to me she is sort of a Betty Boop. I am ready to try Kira. Your lessons are just great. Cotton

I loved this lesson. I used to draw as a teen and have taken it up again now. These lessons are great. Bitty was great to draw. When I initially drew the square to start, I read the rest of the lesson and erased and moved my square down the page so I could fit the hair in. Otherwise my Bitty would have stopped at her forehead!

i tried to do that drawing without following the lesson, just looking at the picture next to the title
i made it a lot faster and when i read the lesson i realized that i did the steps backward and even passed over some of them ...

This was a fun project! I've never really given much thought to anime/manga drawing (except for a very old cartoon "Speed Racer"), but this has me taking a second look!

The bitty lesson (C06) has a wonderful study on the human eye. It's interesting to me that anime characters have human eye elements and not just circles (like many other cartooning techniques).

This was a wonderful lesson for me (returning to drawing after about an 18 month break).

I really liked this lesson! This was my first manga! Woot! I did pretty good for my first try. I drew her hair a little too big (after reading all of the small hair horror stories. LOL!) I finished her up in pen and drew the left contour side of her face too thick. But she's still cute!

I too had to rehash at the last minute to fit the pony tail thingy on her head so her head looks a little flat. I like the manga look but can't really say I will be doing a lot of it by choice, just a personal thing. I had fun with it though. little 'Bitty' is in my gallery of you are interested in seeing her...

We drew Bitty in my artistic drawing class today my was pretty bad compared to some other girls but at least it wasnt the worst........
She is fun to draw it also helps if you like Manga(LIKE ME!!).

I don't like Manga, but Bitty is an exception. And I expect Kira will be too. I had a lot of fun drawing Bitty, love this lesson.
