I'm new here as well as new to drawing. I did do some drawing back in high school, but nothing too serious. Now, I intend on taking it seriously, 20 years later. I'd like to do sci-fi/dystopia graphic novels primarily. I mainly signed up the view the lessons. I'm only using pencil with no color. Once I get this mastered, I plan on using GIMP to color my scanned images. I do want to ink my comics before I scan them, so I'll have to learn how to do that too. I started a couple months ago drawing things from comic books I bought. Then decided to get an anatomy book. At this point I'm burnt out on drawing bones and muscles and memorizing their names. I need to draw things I want to keep. Anyway, that is where I am at.

I have some hacking experience with Linux. So if anyone needs any help setting up a wacom pad so you can draw using GIMP, I could offer you some help getting it installed.

[b]Welcome to Drawspace.

We have a great bunch of artists here; very supportive too. I’d say most of the people here are here to get better. The level of expertise is also phenomenal. In the forum there is some exceptional advice too. If you have a specific drawing that’s giving you trouble there are two discussion groups. One is the official critique Thread and portrait Gallery. I’d say both will provide anyone with great advice at the very least a compliment of your precious work.

I noticed that you said you have a wacom pad. That’s something I haven’t really got into. I do have some computer skills too. I might check it out. I maybe be pinging you for advice as well. Why UNIX? Why not just stick with Windows? I do have some UNIX experience from back in my day, but it’s just so much easier to stick with what I’m comfortable with.

Anyway, welcome to the community.

Regards,

Gilbert

Thanks for the welcome.

But why UNIX? I bought my used lap top and it had an illegal copy of windows on in. When I went to update Windows XP, I couldn't. My computer was pretty much disabled from doing things I wanted to do. I thought that was unfair, because most computers are sold with Windows on them and should be a discount. But there wasn't. To buy the XP software would have more than doubled the cost of the computer. Money I didn't have. So, I learned Linux. Now I am safer over all from virus's and I can do everything plus more than what XP did on this computer, except gaming. I'm love gaming, but I just never have the time. Unless you are a gamer, there really isn't any reason not to use Linux, for the most part.

I haven't used the wacom pad much, but I really think it's going to do the trick for coloring comics.
