Joe Deer
Hello to all;
I just stumbled onto this site by accident, I am glad I did!
I live in Nicholasville, KY, 10 miles South of Lexington,KY where I was born.
I come from a Native American background with a little bit of Irish thrown in for humor smile.gif
I have always had an art talent, spent 18yrs as a draftsman in civil engineering and 20yrs in the local Police Dept. and completed a course from the Norman Rockwell Academy.
I used to have a sign shop where my son and I drew up designs for the local cities, police cars, firetrucks etc.
I mostly do artwork now for my own enjoyment, such as landscapes, homeplaces, and portraits occasionally.
I also do and have taught calligraphy which I enjoy.
I am very willing to help anyone who can benefit from my knowledge.
It is a pleasure to be a member of this fine group of people with the same interest.......Joe

Wellcome !
Big fan of irish people and native americans; all that's left to do for me is actually get to know them biggrin.gif .
Big fan of civil engineers (I'm one). Big fan of policemen as I don't drive (yet) biggrin.gif .
Big fan of calligraphy too, it's more at hand for me than drawing when I have an empty sheet of paper in front of me.
Wellcome again !

Joe,
Your website was cool and you have a great talent. I am sure if you stick with all of us at Drawspace you would be a great teacher. I have always wanted to learn calligraphy too. In fact everytime I go to the local art supply store I debate on weither or not to buy the self teaching kit they have there and then decided to get something else. One day I will and hope you will be around for help. I think you need to post some more pictures. I love the space shuttle one in your gallery. I was 11 when that happened but I still remember it. Welcome to Drawspace.

Venus those kits are a great help! I used to teach classes at "Michael's Arts and Crafts" store and we used kits probably the same as the ones you see. I will be glad to help teach on anything I know something about smile.gif

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome, you make me feel right at home. I am a very down to earth type of person, sometimes I put my foot in my mouth, but what the heck, don't we all?

I look forward to posting some more drawings which I will do this weekend, don't have much time during the week.
Thanks again for the warm welcome...joe

I just went to a craft show and I saw some pretty cool stuff .. so i will share it with you guys ....
Venus ..one of your flowers would be so pretty in these .. ok first they took one of those glass blocks used for like a devider or a window in a bathroom ...then they paint on the block .. the frontsay like a flower .. then if I am right about thses blocks they come two sided .. they drilled a hole in the back ... and put a string of christmas lights inside ..left the plug out ..put a clear coat over the front of the paint .. I think they used like a oil paint . when you plug it in they are soooo pretty ...would make nice gifts ....they were selling them for 20 so I am sure they dont cost much to make .. I thought of you venus with your flowers .

Hi Cyn;
I belong to a Cherokee clan (Tsulagi). My Father was 1/4 and so was my mom.
My children have the looks, I look like the Irish side smile.gif
Here is a pic of my son Dan, he is in Iraq for his second tour, he comes home in Janurary.
Needless to say everyone will be very happy!
You can see the blood line in him pretty good.

Sorry about the size of the pic, I'll do better next time....Joe
Cyn
Good looking son. I can see the blood in him. Tell him thank you for being there in Iraq. He'a a brave, brave. tongue.gif

I can see the blood in you also. I got the Irish looks too. I met an NDN once that said "you're Choctaw Cherokee but whats the white eye?" I told him Irish and he said, "I should have known. Those Irish sure did like us". laugh.gif

Indians get their blood line from the mother, not the father. Makes sense to me. Ha Ha My grandmother used to tell stories about her uncle Coleman and I didn't know until I was grown that he was Cole Younger. I guess you could say I am the epitomy of the cowboy and Indian. rolleyes.gif

Love your artwork, by the way..

Joe ohhh I know all about Micheals Art and Craft store it is my favorite store. Thats where I buy all of my supplies. If I can't find what I am looking for there then I do go to a store that is about 10 miles from me but don't get there often they are more expensive. Thanks for offering help though when I decided to try it I will give you a hollar. biggrin.gif

Kim I think you should have taken an example picture or bought one so that I would know what you are talking about. I have been contemplating painting on round plates with my flowers. I have seen it done a few times and think its pretty for decoration and if I learn calligraphy that would almost be perfect. biggrin.gif

Hi Joe, welcome to drawspace! Its great to have someone with your skills here to learn, teach and support others. I look forward to seeing mor eof your work. smile.gif
kim1963
Hey Joe .. thank your son for me also ....so many people seem to be still not understanding why we are still over there .
Venus .... the glass block idea .. well its a good idea but I bought the glass and the stuff to do them .. but putting a hole in glass is not a easy task .. you have to have a diamond drill bit ( not cheap ) so I stopped to a glass place and said hey could you do this for me and they said sure at 15 a pop .. so I said forget it .. the problem I ran into was the hole size needed in the glass .
Venus
Kim...hmmm I wonder if Brian (my husband) may have one. Will ask him but it would probably cost you to much in gas to go to his shop. laugh.gif Thats if you wanted too. Do you even have a drill? wacko.gif
kim1963
Yes we have a drill ... what does your husband do ? does he work with glass ....?
