Learning to see as an artist is the very foundation of drawing. This lesson challenges you to rely completely on your visual skills rather than verbal instructions. Twenty-nine illustrations take you through the process of combining lines with shapes to create a cartoon drawing of a fish.

These step-by-step diagrams are a gem. Admittingly, I don't think I would of been able to draw Wanda without them lol. I hope somewhere in my subconscious mind, I'm learning to contruct a picture in such a way. It definately makes you start to think a bit differently about how one would build a picture.
I naturally found myself just focusing on the diagrams and I skipped reading the writing. Actually, it kinda felt like cheating lol. Very cool lesson. CHEERS!

I found that lesson very challenging, but I am very proud of the result. Your step-by-step diagrams are fantastic. I have wanted to draw all my life, even taken a few classes, but never had results this good. Thanks and I am looking forward to the next lesson! PS, I am going to try to upload my drawings so far.

[attachmentid=4606]I was worried about there not being verbal instructions. And I was terrified of using a marker to outline Wanda. Markers are so unforgiving.

But I did it! My lines weren't as steady as I would like, but for a first try I'm happy.....

Hi all I'm new here and Wanda was the first lesson I took. I really enjoyed drawing this fish. I'm not an artist. I did some drawing as a teenager, I'm 33 yrs old and love drawing now more than when I was younger. I'm in the process of coloring it but I wanted to share my drawing. I also added my own little touches. I'm not sure how to add pics but hope it works.[attachmentid=7028]

I didn't use a marker with this drawing, just because I didn't have any. So to make up for it I used a B6 to outline and made pitchblack lines that way... it works.

I made the fin that joins the tail too narrow at the joint. Also I made the curvy lines crooked in the middle. Other than that I did good. This is a practice on different types of lines.

1st attempt, hands up in frustration after initial sketch.
...fresh page back to drawing board
2nd attempt, little better outlined with marker and gave to daughter as coloring page...
fresh page; back to drawing board...
YES!!! She is in my gallery per your viewing pleasure...
This was challenging but I was definitely happy with the final product and it made it worth it!

Great fun. After I finished this lesson I decided to turn my paper into a pond of fish. I tend to draw small (conserving resources) so this was good practice. For the first time my partner here told me I was realy improving. This made it a double bonus.

Seemed intimidating at first, but it was a great lesson on how to use a marker. I always struggle to decide which lines I should attack first, without making start and stop marks with my markers.

A very detailed lesson, and fun to do.
When I saw the picture, I thought I wouldn't be able to do this. But your lessons are so step by step, they are easy to follow. My Wanda turned out quite allright. I did not use a marker (didn't have one), but a 4B pencil and that worked out okay.
I hope I will get so far that I can do pictures like this without step by step instructions.

What a great lesson, i love drawing allthough im not too good at it, i get so satisfyed when i see paintings and other drawings, i say wow if only i could do that and with this web site i have realized i can! I have shared this site with my younger brother and we both enjoy it! some suggestions are maybe lessons on- everyday objects and maybe consider more lessons like the one i enjoy most- Kiara an anime object/character.

I am finally getting my proportion better. I know it can do with improvement still but I am happy. I used a 0.8 art pen though instead of a marker. Here is my Wanda.

At first, I was scare about only having picture to guide me, but this is best drawing I've ever done. It's too bad that I can't post it. I realized during this lesson just how much I have learned using this website this past week. I really can't believe it.

My Wanda turned out very nice. Not exactely the same Wanda as Brenda's (again learn to see!), In the main fin, but this one turned out quite nice in spite of the diferent angle.
It was very enjoyable doing this lesson.
