I have shown photos of some very expensive (millions dollars) shoes.
Today, my question was what might look like the shoes of the poorest people. I found a photo which I tried to draw. Most probably the sandals were made from two old plastic bottles which have been flattened. with some torn tissues laces ingeniously attached on each. You can see the necks of the bottles. A kind of fashion in the world of misery.
Not easy to draw shoes of the poors.

After seeing Cees'sites on shoes "INSPIRED BY GAMES", I had the idea to ask Google whether "SHOES MIGHT BE A POLITICAL EVENT". Just an idea, not for games. Then I got the following interesting articles

Here's my contribution:

I've owned this pair of boots for 15 years. They bring back a torrent of memories, mostly good ones, but a few bad as well. They've seen gigs ranging from Bob Dylan to Dimmu Borgir. They've walked across the metropolitan cities of Europe. They bore silent witness to my crazy high-school years and they were the cause of more than a few curious glances from the people I met. Due to long years of wear they've become extremely comfortable; it is just like putting on a pair of slippers. I love these boots!

American designer Gwen Murphy makes shoe sculptures. She's a brilliant artist who collects pairs of old shoes and transforms them into wonderful works of art. By using acrylic paint and clay each pair of shoes gets a personality of its own.

The FOKI is a floor cleaning shoe. It has two rotary cleaners underneath each shoe to sweep up dust and kill bacteria. They're cordless but there's a LED display on the side to indicate battery levels.

Thank, Cees, for continuing to post.

Now again about shoes and politics. You know the story of shoes thrown on president Bush. You know why you have to take off your shoes when crossing control at the airport, recently shoes have been shown in manifestations. While for women, shoes are symbols of beauty and grace, for men, shoes sometimes are used to express angry, contestation and violence. Probably this symbol will be enhanced in the future.

So sorry for having no photo or drawing of Einstein’s feet or shoes. But the story is so lovely. I copy it (see the above link) here. Hope it’s not too long.

EINSTEIN’S FEET
It's hard to do your best thinking when your feet hurt. That's true even for geniuses. On a crisp fall morning back in 1952, Peter Hulit was tending to business at his shoe store on Nassau Street--the venerable main drag of Princeton, N.J.--when he got an emergency call. Helen Dukas, Albert Einstein's secretary-housekeeper, was on the line. Could Hulit come to the physicist's home? "Dr. Einstein's shoes are hurting him," Dukas said. Recalls Hulit: "I'd never made a house call before or since. But this was Einstein."
Hulit, who is now 82, a D-day survivor and long retired, was used to extraordinary customers, including the father of relativity. Hulit's recollections come in the 50th-anniversary year of Einstein's death, an occasion for many reminiscences around Princeton.
Einstein was a familiar figure in town, often dressed in baggy khakis and sweat shirts, his omnipresent pipe creating a halo of smoke around his unkempt hair. Hulit's Shoe Store, a family business begun in 1929, was--and remains--a fixture for residents, and for the students and faculty of Princeton University and the Institute for Advanced Study. The academics bought their desert boots and penny loafers there, and when Princeton's many Nobel prizewinners over the years needed patent-leather shoes for the ceremony in Stockholm, they visited Hulit's too. Physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer was known to browse through the Florsheims.
Setting off for 112 Mercer Street, some five blocks away, where Einstein lived, Hulit took with him a foot measurer and a few pairs of shoes. Dukas admitted the shoe man to the foyer of the smallish two-story house. "Suddenly," says Hulit, "Einstein came down the stairs, smoking his pipe. He shook hands and then reached into his back pocket, pulled out a folded piece of paper and said, 'Zis is ze problem.'"
A good scientific investigator, Einstein, who walked the mile to and from his office at the Institute for Advanced Study every day, had attempted to figure out his discomfort. He had drawn two sketches of shoes (see diagram), showing the pattern of foot pressure. The one he had labeled "bad" showed his current problem: the pressure on his feet was concentrated on the outside of his foot and on his big toe. The drawing labeled "good" showed what he thought to be the ideal: pressure evenly distributed over the entire foot.
"Einstein had the right idea," says Hulit. "But he was very hard to fit. He wore old slippers or sneakers much of the time. Mostly he went barefoot. His feet were as soft and smooth as a baby's." After measuring, Hulit concluded that the professor just needed bigger shoes.
Hulit fitted Einstein with black dress shoes that were comfortable. The pleased professor thanked Hulit profusely, signed his name to his shoe drawings and gave the paper to Hulit. The paper still hangs in Hulit's home. Being a proper Princetonian, Hulit gave Einstein shoes that were appropriate for a public appearance. "The man had never had a pair of black shoes in his life," recalls Hulit. "But I knew he was due to appear at an event in New York City pretty soon. I wasn't going to let him go in brown shoes or sneakers. Even if he was Albert Einstein."

Thank so much, Nosex!

Following the previous post, I tried to get a photo of Einstein’s shoes. Unexpectedly, by typing “Einstein’s shoes” in Google, I found not less than 1 599 000 entries to read. I found at the address

the following picture :

Thanks to Hulit, Einstein had black shoes (normally for ceremonies), but he used them when riding bicycle.

As for the following photo, I suspect he weared his wife shoes.

In any case, it was a real emotion to sketch the great savant meager delicate feet.

TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES SIGN :

In Asia, there are many places where you have to take off your shoes. For example, at the entrance of the pagoda, of spiritual museums. Sometimes also when you enter the living room of someone you highly respect. Taking off your shoes is a sign of respect.
Once, on going out a pagoda, I discovered that some one has wrongly taken my shoes. A very uncomfortable souvenir. So I was very surprised to find this on the net:

By typing “take off your shoes sign” in Google, you have 28 millions of issues to read. Here is a good page of drawings on the topic. Mostly, the meaning is rather fun than respect :

I suspect that Einstein beach picture was photoshopped. he likely was barefoot and someone did that to his feet.

TARYN ROSE SHOES :

Taryn Rose was born in Vietnam. Her name was Vu Thu Nghiem. Then she came to the US, studied medicine and become an othopedic surgeon.

As an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Rose saw patients with many serious foot problems that were caused by fashion footwear, high heels and pointed toes. Being a lover of beautiful footwear, her own feet ached after 14-hour days in shoes with three-inch heels. From her innate appreciation of designer goods, her medical expertise, and her passion for quality, Dr. Rose created her collection using the most luxurious materials. The shoes are made by highly skilled artisans in Italy, with almost three hours of hand labor in each pair. We here at SimplySoles think the comfort is indescribable. If you’ve never tried on a pair, you must. If you own a pair, then write in to tell us your testimonials. These shoes have changed not just the definition of style and comfort, they’ve changed lives.

Taryn Rose changed the footwear industry by creating a line of luxury shoes that are as comfortable as they are beautiful. Her idea of being well-dressed with a sense of well-being touched a nerve with fashionable women, creating a dedicated following for her footwear collection.

BAREFOOT !!!!

This entry is becoming one among the most visited entries in DS ! I’m surprised and happy to see that it continues to welcome new visitors.

Today, my idea is not to talk about shoes, but about feet without shoes. I am very surprised to see that “barefoot”, or “pieds nus” is a great theme !

Just go to Google and type “barefoot”, you get… 62 800 000 articles to read !
Type “barefoot New York” (17 700 000) , “pieds nus Paris” (1320 000), “descalzo” (5 100 000) , or equivalent terms in your language!

Barefoot is freedom, happiness, health, sport, fun, ….

There is a considerable number of barefoot photos in the internet. May be someone wants to draw ?

The following Barefoot gallery is an example :

About the Barefoot Gallery

This gallery of photographs shows ordinary people going about their business while barefoot. The photos are taken from places where barefooting is more common and therefore more tolerated.

The purpose of the gallery is twofold: to show that people can go barefoot and "the sky won't fall," and to inspire would-be barefooters to go barefoot since it is widely reported that seeing others going barefoot gives one the incentive to do likewise.

The criteria for photos is that they show ordinary people going about their business who just so happen to be barefoot at the time. The photos must be full-body shots. The subjects can include anyone: the goal is to show a wide range of ages and to keep a good gender balance.

The gallery was unveiled on March 12, 1998. Hopefully, it will grow with time.

Anyway, have fun ! Thank for visiting !

After talking about BAREFOOT, an idea comes to me : what are the OLDEST SHOES of our mankind ?
Surprisingly, “oldest shoes” is a very popular topic. In Google, I found almost ten millions articles treating the subject.
Here is the image of probably the oldest shoes that have been discovered. Curiously the shoes look rather small, are quite sophisticatedly designed and appear almost "comfortable". smile.gif

And here is a site where you can find images of old shoes..

ANIMAL AND SHOES
Cats, dogs, horses, …, animal in general, are our friends. Because this issue is about shoes, my idea today is to question the relationship between human, animals, and shoes. The internet has hundreds million of entries to read on the topic.
Drawing shoes for your pets or shoes for human inspired from animal shape may give good fun !

CHRISTMAS SHOES.

This topic started more than 3 years ago, is still alive, I must say, in the last year, I was the sole contributor. Each time I come back, I’m amazed to see that you (n=49164 now) continue to honour the topic. Thank you so much. Today, I can’t resist to copy here the lyrics of the beautiful song that you all know.
Merry Christmas to you all!

Christmas shoes

Paroles:

It was almost Christmas time
there I stood in another line
tryin to buy that last gift or two
not really in the christmas mood
standing right in front of me
was a little boy waiting anxiously
pacing around like little boys do
and in his hand he held
a pair of shoes

and his clothes were worn and old
he was dirty from head to toe
and when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say

Sir I wanna buy these shoes, for my momma please
its christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
could you hurry sir?
daddy says there's not much time
you see she's been sick for quite a while
and I know these shoes will make her smile
and I want her to look beautiful
if momma meets jesus tonight

they counted pennies for what seemed like years
and the cashier said son there's not enough here
he searched his pockets franticly
and he turned and he looked at me
and he said momma made christmas good at our house
most years she just did without
tell me sir
what am I gonna do?
some how I gotta buy her these christmas shoes

so I laid the money down
I just had to help him out
and i'll never forget
the look on his face
when he said momma's gonna look so great

sir I wanna buy these shoes, for my momma please
it's christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
could you hurry sir?
daddy says there's not much time
you see she's been sick for quite a while
and I know these shoes will make her smile
and I want her to look beautiful
if momma meets jesus tonight

I knew i caught a glimpse of heaven's love as he thanked me and ran out
I know that god has sent that little boy to remind me
what christmas is all about

sir I wanna buy these shoes, for my momma please
it's christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
could you hurry sir?
daddy says there's not much time
you see she's been sick for quite a while
and I know these shoes will make her smile
and I want her to look beautiful
if momma meets jesus tonight

I want her to look beautiful
if momma meets Jesus tonight

Hi KATDYD ! How are you ?
I drew only 4 laces instead of 5! To run, president Obama must have solid shoes, and 4 laces do not tie enough !
