Full Version: DRAWING SHOES!

I’m sure you have quantities of shoes. I suspect Brenda and several ladies in this Drawing Space of having hundreds pairs of shoes, carefully ranged in wardrobes or cupboards.

After years of faithful service, shoes become time-worn, but we cannot reject them, as we cannot abandon elderly friends. Over years, old shoes are still there, somewhere, under the beds, in the cellar, in the reserve.

Believe me, it is an immense pleasure to draw shoes, especially old shoes. Shoes are not too easy, not too hard, to draw. When you draw an apple, a naughty spirit may ask : ”Hi, it’s an apple or a pear ?” But when you draw shoes, whether you are a beginner or a confirmed artist, the results are inevitably shoes. No two of us may have the same pair of shoes. If you don’t show the original, nobody can say your drawing does not resemble the original! So, there is no risk to draw shoes !

The forms of shoes are various, extremely rich, all gracious. The colour of shoes, especially old shoes, may be a terrible challenge to render! Many celebrated artists worshipped shoes. Andy Wahrol, before producing Marylin Monroe in series, was a talented designer for mode objects. He drew beautiful art-works on shoes. From shoes to series, he has become immensely rich.

source: http://secretlifeofshoes.blogspot.com/2005...rhol-shoes.html

Van Gogh drew (inevitably old) shoes a dozen of times. I’m sure none of you has seen the original paintings of Vincent. They worth now more than ten millions dollars each and probably are guarded in temperature-controlled safe of some Japanese bank. So, drawing shoes may generate high profits for our future generations, if not for ourselves.

source: http://www.artcyclopedia.com/masterscans/l203.html

I had two personal adventures with drawing shoes. Young, I once passionately drew a pair of shoes of a beautiful girl, with long hairs. She loves her shoes, likes my drawing and decided to.. marry me! Years after, one evening at home, somewhat tired at the desk, I drew, with a pen, by memory, a pair of shoes. My wife saw that, by hazard. She was suffocated… by jealousy : the shoes were not hers!

For all the above reasons, I recommend you to draw shoes. An advise, however: do not draw shoes if you are unable to say who is the shoes-owner !

To begin with, here are the guilty black shoes that has generated an incredible storm:.

Best wishes!

Absolutely awesome picture, Wayneo! Two-month drawing ? I'm terrified!
Imagine these 100 shoes have been used for 5 yr, covering in average 5km/day, then in total they have travelled over almost 1 million kilometers! Nearly 23 times around the earth! Fantastic adventure.

Great topic An, and love all those sneakers Wayneo!

I did an ATC of my old riding boots for a swap on another site, so here are the boots that live at the back of my wardrobe (done in graphitints)

I think that my shoes should be here rather than in the introduction.
To chat with their friends!

Tam, look fwd to seeing the finished product - great pic!

Elena, as usual you created a strong and accurate image image, and looks like a comfy pair too.

I can only ogle shoes with longing - I have hideous feet that are as long, as they are wide, as they are high ohmy.gif . I take a 7 1/2 EEE in Aussie shoe size with an instep that makes the Sydney Harbour Bridge look flat!! So I pine for girlie shoes as I live in clumpers sad.gif .

Ha ha ha !I share Kay's joy. Now I understand your name: BIGS (with an "s"). Big heart, big sense of humour (with friends), big step (to visit Australia). Adorable Great BIGS! When you show us your shoes ?
ElenaM
That's a nice idea. Why don't we take pics of our shoes and post them in this thread so others can draw them too.
Kaly
great thread.

Very nice shoes here, and lots of fun I can see!!! laugh.gif
Sue, I don't beleive your feet are that BIG laugh.gif BUT I do beleive your heart IS and your sence of humor too you have already shown us that Click to view attachment

Shoes can tell a lot about people, I like the comfortable tipe of shoes (well I have too cause of my bad hip) but even before, I liked comfortable ones!
NVA
This is a pencil I drew longtime ago !
Tam1426
Wayneo I remember this drawing from your gallery - Outstanding.

Bigs - what a great drawing and in regards to your feet.....my oldest daughter has size nine, and has been that way since she was about thirteen. Naturally it was and still is the source of many jokes in our family. Things along the lines of NASA called and they were wondering if they could land their space shuttle in your footprints. biggrin.gif

Elena great charcoal drawing - this might just be the medium for you for awhile.

NVA really like your pencil drawing.

Hope its not terribly inappropriate but thought I would post the progress I made today.

Iu performed nice sketch! White charcoal on color paper? Good idea, I'll buy some white charcoals. Is it different from white pastel?
ElenaM
I can't tell if it's different because i don't have chalk or pastel but is a stick and they say is made in Korea as a blend of charcoal and chalk and to ressemble a semisoft pastel designed to create similar effects to natural charcoal. You may find it in France as Fusain comprime'.
hannya
Nice thread here!
You will forgive me if this is not a very refined or good drawing, but didn't want to reject my friend's invitation to draw shoes because of a lack of time.
I drew them furiously because I still have to do my housework at this time in the morning!!!!!
Hugs

Elena: I’ll ask around here and tell you later if I can find some. Thanks,
Sarah: We do appreciate your contribution, because you lack time. Yes, your picture is good and friendly! Come again when you can!

Here is another contribution. I drew this sometimes ago. I’m preparing another pair, and will post them soon. Cheers,
An

Actually they aren't that big - sizes must be different here. My feet are just are sort of boxy. I am 5'8" and I take a 71/2 and my sister is 5'2" and she takes an 8 the difference is that mine are almost as wide as they are long sad_an.gif. I used to have to wear Bata Scouts school shoes (I was the only girl with a compass in my heel) - I wanted the Bata Ponytails rolleyes.gif

Looking good Tam.....is that acrylics you are using??

Not easy, that was also what I thought when I saw the photo. Powerful drawing! The drawing is far more impressive than the photo! 7B must be as charcoal, no ?
All the shoes you all posted are different, this is extraordinary!
Kaly
Elena, I like your white charcoal sandals wink.gif

Sarah, I like your furious sandals too, very well done!

NVA Lovely shoes.

Kay, wonderful boots, that's my kind of boots.....

i am also enjoying seeing all the different drawings..like i said it is the only thing i collect, shoes(collectible shoes) and i love them and all the drawings here
i only have a small shelf of shoes but they are my fav dust collectors..

thanks guys for the encouragement and nice words too..they were a challenge and i messed with em for a long time, perhaps 5 hours.

the 7b is graphite the higher the number the softer and darker the lead..perhaps i should have used the 8b instead

clara these are my favorite boots..but i shall also try to draw my winter boots..my "Bean Boots" L.L. Bean is a big fancy namebrand here in New England and everyone has a pair of "Bean Boots"..

ElenaM
All shoes drawn here are gorgeous. great job everybody. An was right. This is an intersting subject.
PS. Kay,I love your motorcycle photo.
oliverandjazz
An at some point during the thread you should round up all the different shoe drawings and post em together so we can easily see all the diff types of art and styles of shoes..

that would be great!
Cyn

OK folks,
I'll group your works side-by-side and publish them. That will be fun! Please wait! What is the max width of a picture acceptable here (600 pixels or more ?)
An
Kaly
I don't know about how many pixels but it says here : Max. single upload size: 2MB
oliverandjazz
those are all sooo awesome to see together...wayneo...dude..i dont know how you did that one..it is most impressive and looks like is was a very daunting piece to do.. wow..
NVA
Hi everybody, here is a collection all published shoes. I think Wayneo pictshould not be compacted!

ElenaM
This post is very good . I suggest you should move it to the main post(copy and paste and add more pics as you get them ; in this way will be available when you open the page. This is what we usually do in challanges.

Good Day All,
Kay, Clara, NVA, & Bigs thanks for your compliments and encouragement. This is turning out to be such an enjoyable thread to read, super idea again NVA.

Bigs - I am using acrylics on primed panel board.
Clara - I think your sandals are adorable.
Elena - Well done sandals and I really like the paper you chose for them.
Sarah - Very nicely done, and I understand about your dilemma housework vs drawing.
NVA - Another great pair of shoes you have posted.
Kay - I think your boots are absolutely gorgeous, looking forward to your Bean Boots.
Cyn - Beautiful drawings.

NVA - Excellent job putting on the drawings together.

Here is my progress today on Baby Shoes. Something I found interesting when I was researching this project and thought the other "experienced" parents out there might find interesting as well. They now call these type of baby shoes "Vintage" baby shoes. In my day of raising toddlers we called them walking shoes as they provided the ankle support that the little ones needed. Point being it made me feel rather old to know that something all four of my kids wore is now considered vintage. smile.gif Oh well, older and wiser right?
