Yes, Kev and Kay, when I first saw Sarah's work in oil pastel as a first attempt in this medium I concluded that one needs to be born with talent to achieve that for the first try.I worked with oil pastels since April this year and I cannot produce a similar work of art after 6 months of practice with the medium ;which tells me that born artists really exist and Sarah is just one of them.

Oh my God my friends I am blushing!
Yes it's true it's a first attempt, I cannot explain why I succeded in a so small format (10x7 cm), but I can assure you that not every pastel I do is a success!!
I have to say this is one of the few works I am proud of in my gallery, but I don't feel more talented than you, especially if I think about the wonderful works you have published.
Our way to success is (more) often paved with failures and frustration, but the process itself is exciting, and the fact we remain in this forum after several months means that this learning process has somehow changed our lives, drawing and discovering the power of colours is therapeutic and is really changing my life and giving me peace.
If we were born talented I would make watercolour masterpieces, but I am going mad trying to produce something decent, and the results don't arrive. Everything seems to me mediocre. But I know if I can make two apples quite well I can even make a good landscape or a good portrait! That's a matter of practice, and I don't give up. I simply say well this is horrible..this one too..I must study more and practice slowly. And I must not forget good drawing while experimenting explosive colours! Hurry is my worst enemy...
One day a work you are completely satisfied with suddenly materializes in your hands, and it's worth all your past frustrations. It's the joy of producing art.
Sharing this with you friends is very good and it' s a surprise and it's so encouraging to receive your warm compliments!!
With all my thanks and friendship!
Sarah

Oliverandjazz, thank you for explaining what the derwent inktense are. I have only 24 colors of them.
Kev, the final painting will be painted with good watercolors (I use Winsor & Newton and Schmincke) like Adolfo shows.

Here are my quinces from real life.I took several pictures for challenges but these ones I drew from 2:20 to 4:30 Pm this afternoon without sketch in charcoal, graphite, etc or color mapping. I used a cheap set of CP 72 pieces for $10 which offers a large range of hues, on this I used 4 shades of yellow, 2 flesh colors, 4 greens, olive, khaki, sienna, 3 browns and a grey shade only on the quince + umber and black.
There is still work in shaping and giving volume through shading but I ran out of patience and just scannned it to share it with you, maybe i get some tips how to improve it.
If you would like to draw it just let me know and I will add my pic of quinces.

Click to view attachmentOk This my attempt at doing fruit in CP. Not half as good as all the good work you guys are doing but I am only just learning when it comes to doing CP work. I did this by copying a step-by-step demonstration from a good little book I have called Drawing with colour pencils by Jonathan Newey.

(Replying to Kev's post from
way back at the beginning of this thread:)
I wrote a review of this book for Amazon
here. As you can see I was not all that impressed. Kev, your work is as good as anything in that book, that's for sure!

Elena suggested I post my Crayola pumpkins here:

Good morning Elena,
I am late, I am just back from a performance with the marine tambour corps I play with. The idea how to paint the peaches on the paper was from a postal card and I bought real peaches to draw them from real life. The theme was to show the opposites, light and dark, orange and blue.
