Hi friends and admins,
I was looking for more advanced lessons about values in DS but I noticed there are mainly beginner level ones.
Considered that one never ends studying values, what about including some more advanced tutorials?
One idea could be that of suggesting ways to obtain a good drawing with few values but keeping the right contrast (ratio) among them, or experimenting with values. I've seen some people's gallery with beautiful pieces obtained with very limited value ranges, but wonderful at the same time. It would be fantastic to study values in this experimental ways too. Just an idea!
I find it would be very useful to study how to strenghten a composition through value relationships and balance.
With regard to this, It might be a good idea to add some composition lessons too. It might help so much enhancing our drawings, and so far I have only found very basic material on this subject in the web.
Thank you for your attention!

I've reviewed this site and it has some good stuff on it. When I look at the members gallery I see a lot of mapping or copying of photos and while I feel using the grid method is a good means of scaling up artwork or copying two dimensional reference materials a sound understanding of good composition would be very valuable. I am an artist and sign maker when I started making signs I was not a good letter man but I was well versed in composition. I found if you have good composition but poor skills you are far,far ahead of vinyl computer cut lettered signs done by someone without design skills. Artwork and drawing are the same.
Composition and formal elements (line, color, form, unity, edge, shape, texture, space and value) also the principles of design (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement/rhythm, unity, variety), whew! are needed. Sounds like a lot, it is. You take it step by step it is great fun.
While I'm talking watch out , drawing has many roles beside copying reference materials just look at Leonardo's note books you can work out ideas about anything including ideas about drawing like the elements and principles above.
