In this lesson, an illustrated discussion surrounding a photo of a dog’s head focuses on the process of breaking down a seemingly complex subject into simple shapes. At the same time, you follow along with numerous illustrations to render a proportionately correct sketch of Isaac.

I backtracked to do this lesson. I don't think it was here when I first completed Part B. I'm glad I came back and tried it. It was so much fun and a quick drawing. I did pretty well with it. The puppy is so cute!

Good lesson, very informative.
One note:
You repeated yourself in step 4. It really should read 'right ear' not 'left ear'.

This lesson was OK. I expected to do more to the sketch though. I think my proportion is a bit off - for instance the eyes look almost as big as the nose. But I spent so much time erasing I got tired. I guess I need to practice proportion a bit more. Here is my drawing.

Here is my sketch of the puppy. I added a little shading to the eyes and ears. I also attempted to add some hair. It's a start....

I'll be honest, I've never considered using shapes to outline your drawing, it certainly made it much quicker to draw and definately helped with the proportioning.
I will be definately practising this again and see if it improves things (well it cant make them worse...... )

Wow! Thank you so much for this lesson!
I'm actually starting to see how to find the shapes! For the first time, I've actually drawn an animal! My dog is coming out to look fantastic! I have drawn my whole life and am pretty good but never was able to do this kind of thing. I'm so excited and just really happy this is all online for free.
Thank you again for teaching me!!!

Another great lesson.
Because of the step by step and easy to follow way the lessons are put together, I can actually see myself improving.

This is an Amazing lesson. I have been drawing many things till date. had not taken any formal education. whatever I would draw wud always be as a whole. Seeing shapes has been helping a lot. Now I have started seeing shapes in many things and just looking at it I can say - " Ok If I can break it down in these shapes, the drawing would become so much more easy and more proportionate"
Thanks Brenda for this amazing site that you have created. It gives a lot of indepth knowledge to amateurs like me and also helps improve and enhance our abilities.

Hello!
There is an error in the step 4 instruction (figures 809 and 810). It should be writen "sketch the shape of the ear on the wright" instead of " sketch the shape of the ear on the left".
