Learning to see as an artist is the very foundation of drawing. A thorough visual examination of your subject is the most important ingredient for making great sketches. This lesson challenges you to rely completely on your visual skills rather than verbal instructions. Thirty illustrations take you through the process of combining lines with shapes to create a cartoon drawing of an alligator.

I thought that this was a fun and easy one to do since I am a beginner. The only problem I had was with the eye...hopefully, that will get better with time.

The marker lines don't follow the sketch lines very closely. In some cases, entirely new lines are created that half-use more than one pencil line. Confusing.

Allie's cool - As I progress through the different lesson's, I'm gaining confidence in my drawing where I'm less judgemental with myself with each line or shape I make. You know that your gonna have a complete picture in the end and the thrill is in watching it transform from all these shapes and lines into a recognisable picture. So you just go with it, flow with it, and focus less on the end result. The Taa-Daa that follows makes you feel real good.

After doing the starfish, I found this a little tedious. However the lesson is still valuable.

This was a fun lesson. I have done all of the previous lessons and am
finally getting comfortable! I can't believe I am doing so well. I have always
just barely managed to draw stick figures.

This is a good lesson on proportions. I did good but I got mixed up and put the lines in the eyes in the wrong place.

I love Allie, however i am not a great drawer so this was sort of hard for me, but even though im not great i get satisfyed, this sensational feeling that says "you can do this, you can!" i love the feeling oh so much- the alllie i drew is purple though because i didnt have my black marker on me!!! I am still proud and qill put it in my binder of drawings and sketches i have done!!! =]

I don't think the marker lines are SUPPOSED to follow the sketch lines.
The sketch lines are just to give you a broad idea of the shape you are using.
You should post a photo of your drawing!
We'd love to see it!
I bet it's great!

So good and fun to do these drawings!
My Allie if you don't look at Brenda's original, looks almost "perfect". Comparing it with Breanda's has a few details not quite the same, but, as I outlined it with a marker it was dificult to adjust the details.
Will I ever get perfection...!
Thank you Brenda for giving me hope.
