Hi

I wonder why I am not finished with this drawing! Though I posterized it .... it is still with me and is still not framed ..... can anyone suggest how to make it more photo realistic ? I mean when I see it ... it still looks a sketch...

It would be helpful if you can provide me with a link or a tutorial where certain techniques might be discussed ! .. I have a few holidays coming up .. would like to work it up further...

Danke!

Looks really good!

Well the tooth of the paper seems a bit course for the subject matter I think, but nothing you can do about that now. I would suggest adding a background. Noting in focus just something to ground the image.
Something like this drawing I am working on .. take a look at the reference photo

Here are some other example and if you explore this photo site you will see many of this style.

hey thank you so much ! :-) nice idea ... I'll try n give a graytone background ..... fading out bottom to top !

raikwar,

Once you have added in a background you may find that you need a wider range of values in the drawing itself...This is a beautiful moment you caught and it made me smile to remember my own girls giving me those big wet sloppy kisses smile.gif Thank you!

I hardly ever get a professional black and white photo to work from so I scan and grayscale the color photos and then adjust the contrast get a full range of values. I'm sure the great black and white photographers used lighting and exposures to get their great looking photos. In your photo I think there is too much white. It may just be the scanner isn't picking up the lighter values. In photo realism you will obviously need to either use a source photo with the full range of values or adjust the contrast with the help of a program.

I don't like photorealism either, but I love well lighted detailed photos to work from that I can get a near photo realism that shows that it was drawn by an artists.

Just trying to get to this point, the drawing is really good and looks like very close to a photo from here.

what is in the background behind the baby. to be honest i would remove it. it interferes with the picture and makes it look like the babys or mothers withered arm. I think youve captured the very essence of the photo without it. otherwise completely amazing work. the rendering is top notch.

Very cute drawing!
3 things need more shading,
the baby's ear need some to make it look more rounded(3D)
The lady's ear is "behind" a part that is already shaded and would be obstructed from the light source, so it and the hair tie look like they are glowing

I cant give any advice what so ever huh.gif

but i can say its beautiful wink.gif

I like what's heppening on the left side of the composition (though I'm not sure of the thing behind the baby's back), but the right side is lacking in accuracy. The woman's facial features are aligned to each other, but aren't aligned to the skull. Both ears seem to jump off the page a bit too much and would benefit from a few middle grays. It may be the angle, but the chin seems large or the mouth seems small. I would also reference the woman's hair again, there aren't enough values there to pull of realism like you're looking for. Black is black, but that doesn't mean there can't be a full range of value present. Out of the whole image, the woman's hand is my favorite.

good luck!

I can't offer much advice but I will agree with others about that thing behind baby's back. It threw me off as well. Also, the mouth and the chin need a bit of adjusting I think. Overall this is a really beautiful drawing. You did a great job. smile.gif
