You know we all were once like you, lingering on the edges, half scared to post for fear of sounding fooling, even more scared to post a drawing because we felt it wouldn't match up to some other drawings that we already saw posted.

Then one day, you just have to do it. You see a comment you want to reply to. You've created a drawing that you're dying to show some one or want some feedback on and you do it. You make your first post. And all your fears slip away. People are welcoming and helpful and friendly. You're made to feel at ease, your drawings and comments are welcomed with enthusiasm and you're suddenly amidst old friends any time of the day or night.

So if you're hesitating about posting, don't be. Join in, talk, ask questions, post drawings, give feedback on others drawings. We want you here. We want you to grow and learn and participate in every part of this forum that Brenda created.

I look forward to seeing more new faces and more new comments in the threads. If you have any questions, all you need to do is ask and I or others will do everything we can to help you. If you have a question and are shy about posting still, them send me a PM and let me know.

Happy drawing!

This is so true, I was and I still am a little scared, to post a comment or to show a drawing, but this site has given me a little confidence to show my drawings and as you can see, even post a post on this site.
Regards Olddad (David).

Yes, it is sooooo true. I usually don't have much to say, therefore, I'm a lurker. But I've made up my mind to not be that way here. I used to be on another forum a few years ago but it finally collapsed due to lack of interest and I haven't found one that I enjoyed as much until now...... This looks like a really laid back group of artists.
So my advise to all ya lurkers out there, bite the bullet and type in a few words now and then............Enjoy and have fun.

'm new today. I just found this place and I love the atmosphere. So glad to know that 'the zone' is a familiar thing to people. I have always felt misunderstood about that feeling. Living among people who never draw anything, has made me shy about my art.

So I gave it up for almost 30 years. I just picked up a sketch pad and pencils over the last few months. I am SO rusty, but you all give me courage!

Thanks for being here. I know I'll feel right at home!

So here is my shy little first sketch after 30 years:

Welcome back to the world of art SweetSilverBird, can I call you Silver for short? smile.gif

Lots of people have a gap in drawing, its way more common than you think. A few months and you're back in the saddle again. Your sketch is great, I look forward to seeing more of your work and talking with you in the threads.

Why don't you have a go at one of the Drawing Challenge images? You could win one of Brenda's book in the December 1st draw!

Keep drawing, keep posting. Its wonderful to see another new face here.

Isn't it odd how life goes! When I was a young woman, I used to draw to express feelings that I couldn't talk about. My goodness, every drawing was like giving birth! At one time I was doing quite well, and got offered a place in Emily Carr Art School. But life got in the way, and those around me were not appreciative of any art, and those days were not conducive to any form of self expression. It's not that I need to have support, so much, but I do want my drawings to be safe from others.

I've already done another sketch that turned out better than the first. It's a bit big for my scanner, but we'll see... I truly hope that I'll get some skills back. I know you're right about drawing, drawing, drawing everyday!

You know, I have never drawn anything but faces... (eek!) so just starting out, I just want to draw a few more portraits, and then I promise I will try other things. I know I need my 'eye' educated and that takes study and practice and stepping out of a comfort zone into new horizons.

Thanks again for the super welcome. It was a huge jump for me to come out and say hello. It's only by reading all the lovely posts of people here that made me want to try.

Welcome , Bird, I'm sure you will be just fine here......I'm new too, but I just made myself "do it". You've made the first jump, Now, just keep it up and before long you'll be playing hopscotch! LOL

Glad to see you are getting back into the artistic swing. I think all artists need encouragement, and you will get that on this forum. I feel that you will get honest feedback on your work and not just fluff.

I look forward to seeing some more of your work and seeing your posts.

People are still lurking (gasp ph34r.gif ) take off the camouflage and start posting people! I'm new here and have posted in several places. I'm really shy btw wink.gif but this place just makes it easy for me to let it all hang out, so to speak. I keep telling myself to post some of the doodles and I will...eventually. I am currently working on a woodburn for a friend so when it is done...I'll be a post-a-holic. Drawing, painting, sketching, doodling, whatever you want to call it isn't so much what others think of it as what YOU think of it. If you want to learn...this is a great place for it. If you want to look ...same thing. But the only person losing out if you don't post and reply is YOU. So don't lose out. Learn, post, reply, and HAVE FUN! Draw till your little fingers hurt. Draw those things that bug you. I tell ya from experience, If you bottle all the ideas up and never use them..they will dry up. I am 38 years old and have supressed the "artist" in me for years because it just wasn't sensible. Well the artist is speaking now, she has control LOL. AND I have learned that the feel of a pencil or woodburner in my hand is GREAT! So what I can't draw for diddly! At least I am having fun learning and growing, not to mention my son and I now draw together. Thanks to the lessons on here.

I've been doodling in the margins of notebooks since grade school (more decades ago than I care to think
about) but I've always envied people with the skill to create realistic looking drawings. A few months ago it hit
me that I might actually be able to do something about that. I picked up Barbara's "Dummies" book and from
there I learned about this wonderful website. Between the book and this site I'm slowly learning how to put
some meat on my stick figures.

Darus,

Welcome to Drawspace!!! Take time to read the lessons and the critique thread and well everything here!!!!
We all started where you are now...believe me!!!! Practice Practice Practice and you will only get better!!! You are seeing the basics and with patience you will be able to teach yourself to "see" more and more and then be able to translate what you see to paper!!! I Love "Evil Grendil" hehehe

I too lurked for a long time, but not out of self-shyness so much, but out of my own need to sound people out. Unfortunately, not all people are as great as the ones here are. I hope very soon to scan in some pictures, but it may be a few months, since I am awaiting the time when I can move into my home (which is still in the restructureing phase *Sigh*) and set up my computer. I only wish I could be as open and somewhat flambouyant as I can be online!

Oh, and thanks to all the people here. You are the people who make the shy others able to stand up and say hello! Keep up the great work!
