paulette ....nice portrait of tuesday smile.gif
PeeWee
Hey twincedar that is a realy good drawing for a first try. If you keep trying to draw people you will find that with every one you draw you get better. Great drawing WoW !
painter48
Way to go, Paulette ! I think you did a fabulous job of it.
Venus
wub.gif Awwww Brian David...you made me blush. Yes my girls are very good looking but they get it from their daddy's side of the family. blush.gif Thanks you for the compliment though.

Maire..I just wanted you to know the picture is saved and is now the theme on my desktop...I love it so much. Thank You. You are very gifted!!!

Paulette..I really like your picture of Tuesday too! WOW it is great!!! Now that I have seen her drawn without makeup I think she does look alot better. More innocent. Plus you are right the makeup thing was JUST FOR halloween. I don't want my girls growing up to fast in any way. Plus there are too many perverts in the world. So I want to be safe. blush.gif

Actually EVERYONE of YOU on Drawspace is tallented!!! I have seen some people start out at beginner levels and mature to great advanced! Thanks to Everyone who participated in my reference for this Challenge. wub.gif
paulette4
Thank you everyone. I'm pretty happy with it, I can see places to improve but that will be for other drawings. You guys are so good for the ego. blush.gif
Paulette
IslanderNL
Twincedar, this is a wonderful first portrait. You have a good likeness there too, which is difficult to capture. Keep practicing, keep playing with it, it really is the trick to improvement.

Paulette, that's a great image of Tuesday. You've done well with it.
twincedar
Thanks Kim, PeeWee and Islander for the encouragement. I will continue to work on portraits. I would like to get good enough to do some of my family so I will need to practice.
kim1963
Twincedar ...this may help you ..in the begining of my trying to draw portraits I started by doing coloring book images ..so I could see the outlines clearer.. and it did work for me ..I slowly started adding more and more detail ..soon I was doing them with out looking then I started doing women out of vouge and people ...that was it didnt have to look just like them but as long as the eyes and nose and mouth were in place I was good ...then from there I moved to trying to really make the drawing look like the person .
not sure if that helps ...also I use to love coloring in books and put so much shading and detail ...lots of ways to practice . smile.gif
twincedar
Hey Kim that's neat. I too like to borrow my son's coloring books and freehand draw the pictures and add shading. It's quick and fun but I didn't think of it as practice. Thanks for the tip!
paulette4
Kim,
Good tip, thanks also.

Hello guys and gals....

Thanks Venus for the photos... smile.gif

I can see some new faces, and many great art pieces....

At my workplace, during a slow morning , I tried a quick approach, from quick glances at the monitor...

These are not finished drawings, they're done as quick exercises on basic features and likeness...
.... It took me about 40 mins on each drawing. both done in a strict aidless freehand style, from visual perception alone...

The second drawng was done from imagination, thinking ahead in time... rolleyes.gif

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.. wacko.gif

Regards

Neat drawings JET - and only 40 minutes. I like the concept of working from imagination on the second. Very creative.

Tks. Jeanette and Kim.. I used mainly H and 8B pencil for the darks. There was no charcoal in this drawing.
I use the H to do the cartoon, and fill in my lights and darks then use 8B for very dark. Idon't always work this way; but went along with my muse tongue.gif

It's in a version of the moleskin books..same size, cover and everything ; but the paper is not as smooth as the original moleskin.. I keep the original moleskin for my good sketches laugh.gif

Just a quick question ..Can anyone start a Drawing Challenge?
IslanderNL

Hi Paulette smile.gif
Yes, it was done in acrylic 7 x 91/2
I am glad you enjoy it!!!
Laura01
I have been trying to make time to join in the challenges and finally to day I was able to!!! Everyone here has been drawn (no pun intended) to your lovely daughters, Venus, and I am no exception....Just couldn't help myself...although I didn't have time to draw both of these beautiful little girls I did make time to draw your oldest. Not sure if I caught a good likeness only Momma can tell that...even if she doesn't look exactly like her you can tell she is the inspiration for this drawing.
Time 2.5 hours a quicky for me
Size 5 x 7.5 inches on stonehenge vellum using 2h wood and 2hb mech pencil

painter48
Laura, once again, you just amaze me with your abilities. Awesome, and only in 2 hours, WOW
IslanderNL
Lovely work Laura, it has a very 1940's feel to it. I like it.
IslanderNL
This is the last day of Venus' Drawing Challenge. So get all those stray drawings in before tonight! smile.gif

Tomorrow bright and early Painter48 will be hosting the next Drawing Challenge. Get your pencils sharpened, forget the holiday rush and spend some time with your friends at Drawspace.
racedolls
Laura she is beautiful. you do wonderful work. i love it.
Lori
Cyn
Laura, she's fabulous. She looks like a post card. Beautiful.
kim1963
Laura wonderful detail ....she does have a 40's look ... does anyone know what she is dressed up as ? I know it was a holloween costume .
Laura01
Painter48,
More than 2, sweety...hehehehe and thank you!
Jeanette,
I noticed that flavor coming through about 1/2 way into this...I liked it so just went with it...Kinda reminded me of one of those silent movie heroines
Lori,
I really enjoyed doing this...I don't often get to do something just for the fun of it!
Cyn,
Thanks, if you all look closer I bet you could pick out all the boo-boos.

Kim,
I'm takinga wild guess, but as the mother of 4 daughters I would have to say some character like Princes Jasmin in Alladin...but the head scarf is different....

Thanks for the kind comments,
Laura
Venus
Laura..lovely drawing...and as far as her costume goes everyone is wrong. laugh.gif She is dressed up as Princess Gwenevere. That was a long time before 1940's...hehehehe blush.gif Ohh and Tuesday was my flower child.
Laura01
Venus,

Now the head dress makes sense!!!! Regardless she is a beautiful little girl and it was a pleasure attempting to draw her...sorry it didn't resemble her more...that sometimes happens with the quick ones.

I have a flower child too. My daughter Jamie...you guys will have to go to the cafe to hear the chicken story...hehehehe

Laura
J·E·T
Venus, thanks for your comment.
It was fun drawing your daughter. smile.gif

Thanks Jeanette, I know how much you encourage creativity in our works.

Kim, thanks for your comment.

Old Dad,hi!
The drawing you liked, was done using a grid, for getting the main face features; and was drawn from a photograph of our beloved IslanderNL (Jeanette), posted in another art forum, where we first met at
Thanks for taking your time visiting my 'freehand' galleries

Kind Regards
cool2.gif

PS- -A Suggestion-
It might be a good idea to include a christmas theme in our Next Challenge smile.gif
kim1963
Good guess then ..I thought maybe jasmine with the thing on her head .
