Mark's quite right Jonsie. In a small drawing, you can't get all the detail but have to indicate shape and shading more generally.
You have to follow your reference image and place what you see there into your drawing. If your drawing is small, make sure you use a very sharp pencil or a fine pen if its pen and ink to ensure that your line doesn't overpower the size of the drawing.
What is the size of your drawing Jonsie? Is this the Colonel again?
Ms. J,
Yeah, it's still the "colonel". Me and him aren't getting along !! Must be that danged rebel in him, or me, haha. I just try and do too much it seems, and always end up, with that "overpowering" line thing. I'll have to be more careful.
Mark, I posted a pic in the critique forum, or a pic, that I was "trying " to do, and to me, it's sort of "small scale". I was just having a problem with my/his eyes. I use a magnifying glass sometimes to critique my own work, and under that thing,it looks just awlful !! But, when I go by it , and it's laying on the table at a distance, I think, " Hey, that almost looks ok ". Thanks for the help.
Jonsie
