Is it ok to work on both the front and back of the page when you use a sketchbook? I am concerned that having both drawing press against each other when it is closed will cause the drawings to come out in smudges.

I would not do that unless you are sure you are just praticing. You may also run the risk of ruining your first drawing.

I agree with Bobby. What you may think is only a sketch could turn out to be something you want to keep or take further. Unless the paper is very heavy, its most likely that you will see a shadow of the drawing done on the reverse of the sheet. This is especially true if you scan the drawing.
However, it is your sketchbook and you can do whatever you like. If you do draw on both sides, you would need to interleave the sheets with a piece of glassine or tracing paper to prevent smudging, as well as spraying with fixative first.

I will stick to using only one side of the page don't want to ruin my drawings. Thanks for the advice.
