Welcome to the world of cartoons once again. My name, if you don't know it by now, is Elena and this is my first Snoopy challenge. The caracters I chose for this challenge are my dear friends from childhood, Pif the dog and Hercule the cat.
Let's see who they are.
Pif le chien(Pif the dog) appeared as comic strip for the first time in the Fench newspaper L'Humanite in 1948.
The character was created in 1945 by Jose Cabrero Arnal.
In 1952 due to its increasing popularity Pif appears in color in the journal Vaillant and the journal will be named from 1965 Vaillant Pif journal.
In 1969 it adds prizes and is named Pif gadget.
The original story is about this doggie that lives in a family of workers, Tonton, the father, Tata the mother and Doudou the baby. Two years later, in 1950 a new character was added, Hercule, a mischievious cat that constantly plays tricks and chalenges Pif.
Pif was animated for a television cartoon series called Pif et Hercule, in 1989, and a movie New adventures of Pif and Hercule in 1993.
Hercule was also developed as a character in its own right with a magazine dedicated to his adventures, called Super Hercule.
PIF Challenge
There are two parts to this challenge, all levels of skill are encouraged to participate, you may take part in one or two or both if you wish.
Part One, simply draw one of the references I have provided, or find one you'd rather draw.
Part Two, make up your own comic Pif style! Just please keep in mind: No religious references please, as many people are easily offended. Same goes for sexually explicit cartoons, children being eaten, you get the idea. Keep it nice & funny.
You may use any type of medium you like but please no computer graphics , all drawings must be hand drawn. You may use your computer for text or coloring if you wish but please post your original drawing first.
Special thanks to Brian David who makes this challenge possible, enjoy and have fun with Pif characters.

As for my love for Pif and the gang, I must say that every week I was at the kiosk waiting for the magazine to arrive, monthly there were prizes with small surprizes, I loved to draw them all and here are a few of my clippings from that era on my diary. I was between 12 and 17 while following the adventures of these characters.(1966-1971)
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentI even created my own badge of Pif which crossstiched in silk and wore it on my dresses.
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentI will also post some real pages from that time.
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentIn the first page Pif lost his mule and the water supply and tries to find a town. He sees a train but people on the train are afraid of him. He doesn't know why.
Second page: he finally gets to a town but everybody sherrif included are scared by his presence.
Finally Hercule takes him prisoner and delivers him to authorities eplaining that he printed wanted posters with Pif picture in order to get a reward.
They try to escape with the money but Kactus kid is waiting for them in the desert. He wants their money. Pif gets nervous and knocks down Kactus Kid, after Hercule admitted he spread the rumor that Pif was a bandit.Hercule is tied upon a cactus.
Pif tells him to wait for him and returns with a wanted poster for Hercule. The townfolk are after Hercule now.
End of story.

Obrigado, Clara.
I felt like a kid again last week when I rediscovered them in the web.
So my avatar is in tune with the spirit of mischief and the hypnotizing charm of cats.

Elena, I?m sending my drawing about the Pif thread. I must be honest, I don?t know anything about The Pif magazine. Never was published something like this In Latinamerica (maybe I?m wrong). Anyway, the character seems to be funny. Regards.
Kain
Thanks Elena. Yes, Hercule produced an explosion.
ElenaM
Nov 12 2008, 09:21 PM
Hola, Kain. Very well done Hercule. The name of the magazine and doggie is PIF.
Do I have to understand that Hercule just produced an explosion? He looks unsure of his act.And I was ready to say he plans his next attack.
Thanks for joining the fun.

Great drawings everyone.
Sorry for the delay in posting this Elena, a bit of excitement around here.
The power cord for my modem decided it would explode, poke wires through its protective cover and burn a nice sized hole in my carpet. Needless to say we were without internet - but more than that the fire hazard! We are grateful that nothing worse than a carpet burn came of it. The technician who came to replace the modem said this wasn't the first one he had seen. Hmmm, that makes me wonder if they should have maybe notified people??? Anyway here is my drawing and I had a great time doing it.
Thanks Elena.

very cute Pifou, Clara.
Nobody would mind taking some time off drawing and sketching. Especially when you have a good reason.I didn't find myself too productive either these days.
Anyway it's good that you found time and energy for a comeback.
