Full Version: Weekly Drawspace Challenge

Ola Everyone,

Welcome to the weekly drawing challenge. Firstly, I would just like to aplogise for the late post of this challenge, i had such a problem at home with our network (apparently they were down due to some or other maintenance) so i was only able to do this now today at work - guys, please forgive me... i'm soooooo sorry!!

Here are the 'game rules'... so everyone play nice & mostly have FUN!!!

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

Here are the 5 reference photo's that I have selected for this week, hope there is something for everyone.

I've just noticed that most of the pictures are brown... that is possibly because we just came out of our winter here.
But the colors are out, so hopefully if i host another challenge i'll have more color to share smile.gif

I think they are great photos! I'm not sure which one to try, maybe the bird (a parrot?) I just went out and bought myself a set of pastels because I loved using them for the first time last week so we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the great photos! biggrin.gif

Hi TaniaBee,

The snaps are gud..especially the parrot..culdnt resist drawing..but made a mess of it..i used charcoal (may too much.. rolleyes.gif )..and it almost became a crow..then added a green tint in photoshop...now atleast the color has some similarity..hehe..anyways here's my first post..

I think it's a better parrot than a crow! Great Job, I'm going to tackle this one also confused.gif

Hi Chris & Jaisan,

Chris - thank you for you comments - i hope you do try the 'parrot' - she's actually an Indian ring-neck Parakeet (sometimes classified as a parrot) - her name is Pepper and i'm so glad you will draw her!!

Jaisan, like Chris said, i don't think it looks like a crow at all - she looks fabulous!! smile.gif

Thank you both for joining in the challenge and can't wait to see more!!!
Jaisan
Well..thank you both chrismh and TaniaBee rolleyes.gif ...so the nxt one..

Jaisan, thank you again for your drawings - the two cyclists (the one is my boyfriend on the left and the other is my brother in law) and also the Iland, it doesn't look out of proportion to me.... GREAT JOB!!

Paulette, Thanks for letting me host, i'm REALLY sorry that i posted this up late - technology can work for you or against you unfortunately.

what a great job you did. What type of pencil/pen did you use? It look like it is reddish or brown.

I love these challenges. I have only been drawing about 6 months or so and I am having so much fun here in drawspace land. Flowers are my favorit thing to draw so far. Hope you like this pencil sketch.

Here is my attempt at the bird. I think I could use some work with the texture of the feathers.
TaniaBee
Thank you for all your drawing War7vian - your bird is so cute, you've captured her funny little character!!

Thanks to all for participating!! hope to see you all again soon in other challenges!!

Jaisan
