Full Version: Looking for the BEST possible scan results

I am looking for the best possible scan results for my artwork. I'd like to know what others have found to be the best settings when scanning. I want to achieve the highest detail without the grainy result of high DPI scans. I find that enabling descreening has not had a significant effect. The artwork are all pencil drawings and scanned on an Epson 4800.

Thanks in advance for the great advice that I know I will receive.

Well if you go by mine you sure won't get results, mine suck most of the time! So I usually use a digital camera if possible to photograph my artwork. But I know that isn't always possible.

Scanners vary so much in type and ability and quality its hard to define a specific set of rules for good scanning results.

Here is a link that may give some pointers to get you started. And if anyone finds something that works, please share. smile.gif

After scanning, I upload them onto my computer using PNG foremat instead od JPG. Better quality.

Ok,here I am with too much time on my hand again. My(cheap) scanner has 4 difference setting=150,100,72,and 300 DPI.I scan this test drawing in all settings plus the 300 DPI and save it as "npg"file type as rsine advised. Then I took a picture of the drawing and uploaded that.Next I resized all image to 400x453 where all would upload easy.Outside of the digital picture ,which I do not like, I see very little difference. But that's just me.(I have 500-20 vision without my white cane and seeing eye dog.)So here they are for your eyes to judge.Hope this help.Look at the image name to tell which is what.
