I know there is a lesson on Transferring an Image by Cindy Wider here on DS, and i used a lot this method while in school in my early years of drawing. Well that was done mostly with graphite drawings.

Right now I have a different need: to duplicate a graphite drawing for a Cp work.As graphite and Cp don't mix I will not be able to trasfer by using graphite and I never transfered between media. My guess is that I need to copy my portrait on transfer paper in Cp and also use Cp on the back of my duplicate as the color will be skin color i wonder if the contour wouldn't be too pale and hard to recognize.

Professional advice is highly appreciated.

You can do this a couple of ways Elena.

If you have a bright window, you can tape the graphite drawing to the window, put your paper that you'll be doing the cp drawing on over it, then gently trace the contours of the drawing. You should use a pale cp pencil as you don't want something that will stand out from the rest of your drawing. Yes, it will be a little difficult to see, but it should be strong enough for you to follow. My original Coloured Pencil workshop gave details on how to transfer a master drawing to cp.

You can also use the method of putting coloured pencil over the back of the graphite drawing then tracing the outlines onto your CP drawing paper.

There is also tracing paper available commercially, but I've never used it to be honest, so I can't say how it would work, especially with coloured pencil.

A word of advice when you transfer by tracing, press firmly enough to leave some pigment on your paper, but not so firmly that it leaves indentations in your cp paper. You will never get these out and it will show in your final drawing.

Good luck with it.

Thank you, Jeanette. I always used tracing/transfer paper as this is the way we were taught in school.I will try both ways with different drawings just to test both methods. Thanks again.
